    Refresh My Memory – Alien

    Refresh My Memory – Alien

    It’s time for the hosts to talk about the prequel to that beloved classic, Aliens Vs. Predator 2, the original 1979 film Alien, directed by Ridley Scott.

    Let’s join Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van for a gut-busting chest-bursting good time!

    Learning nothing from the film they recklessly open strange eggs from the planet Germany, and drink a substance resembling android blood called a Piña Colada.

    Want to make a Piña Colada? Here’s how…

    Learn which of the hosts got scared by a toaster and watched this film from the kitchen.

    They also come up with the tribute drink The Jonesy AKA In Space No One Can Hear Egg Cream. Want to make it?

    * Take half a can of frozen concentrated orange juice

    * Add 1/4 cup sugar

    * Add 1 1/2 cups milk

    * Add 1 tsp vanilla extract

    * Blend and slowly add 12 ice cubes

    * While blending add one raw egg

    These are safe in Canada, but please check before adding one if your country isn’t Canada. And if it’s not, pleasecome to Canada one day and enjoy this drink. (Here’s more info on eggs in Canada.)

    The producer’s wife thought this drink was refreshing and was better than a the Orange Julius at a local mall.

    If you make a Piña Colada or The Jonesy AKA In Space No One Can Hear Egg Cream or make up one of your own, please send a picture to sneakyd@sneakydragon.com by following this link! Even if you don’t, we’d still love to hear from you. Also let us know what you think of the show and if you have any suggestions for future films.

    Refresh My Memory – Star Trek: The Motion Picture

    It’s time to boldly go where a 1960s TV show as gone before.

    Let’s take a long look at this 1979 film as your hosts Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van follow their Prime Directive out of prime time and onto the big screen with Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

    Warning: Things get a little grizzly. Picture by Eric Fell.

    And if you don’t think it all feels long enough, here are some more scenes.

    A Romulan Ale is enjoyed. If you’d like to make one, follow this link for the recipe.

    They make up a tribute drink: the Kirk You! Want to make it?

    * Put a rock in a glass

    * Put ice on the rock.

    * Put ginger ale on the ice and the rock.

    The producer’s wife didn’t try this one because… there’s a rock in it. The hosts advise you to drink this slowly – the length of time it takes a shuttle to get to the Enterprise.

    If you make the Kirk You! or make up one of your own, please send a picture to sneakyd@sneakydragon.com by following this link! Even if you don’t, we’d still love to hear from you. Also let us know what you think of the show and if you have any suggestions for future films. May the Force be with you!

My all-time favorite podcast

Each week, Sneaky Dragon features a funny, intelligent, and thoughtful conversation between two fellows who share their observations on a wide variety of subjects including the comic arts scene, film, television, music, politics, pop culture, history, people, relationships, and, sometimes, even pets. Co-hosts Ian Boothby and David Dedrick are friends from way back who obviously enjoy each other’s company, as well as the company of the occasional special guest. Always engaging, they are consistently witty, and often hilarious. While they usually keep things lighthearted, they are not afraid to get serious, and when the subject becomes personal, they can be sensitive and disarmingly candid. The discussions are unrehearsed and largely improvised, and episode duration seems to be governed by the time required to cover the topics at hand. Language is sometimes explicit, but not really offensive, and never mean-spirited. Ian and David live in the greater Vancouver area in British Columbia, and it’s often interesting to hear a Canadian perspective on US politics and culture. I look forward to each new episode and urge others to give the show a try. Honestly, the podcast is so entertaining that I often go back and listen to older episodes I’ve already heard. In addition, the two occasionally release specialized, limited-run podcast series, and many of these are also very good. For example, the Compleatly Beatles podcast series (from 2013-2014) is excellent and well worth checking out. The current Sneaky Dragon Listening Party series (featuring David Dedrick and his daughter, Mary) is very entertaining, and has exposed me to a treasure trove of unfamiliar (to me, anyway) music. On the other hand, I listened to, but didn’t really connected with, the special film-oriented Totally Tin Tin and Full Marx podcast series. Still, I like the podcasts enough to offer monthly support through Patreon.

New Listener

I learned about this podcast about a month ago through the sister podcast Full Marx and found the hosts so endearing that I had to check out the parent cast. These two are hilarious together and their smooth tangenting from topic to topic will leave you with a constant smile on your face as they cover a wide variety of topics from comics to movies to improve and deck talk.

As I’m about to episode 120 from their website and they are just as great 2 years in as they were on day one. Also check out the wonderful art by David Dedrick.

Terrific Entertainment.

As a Marx Brothers fan since I was 10 (a mere 43 years ago) it has been a delight reliving the Marx Brothers movies with Ian and David. Their dry wit and obvious admiration of the Marx films is refreshing. Knowledgeable and entertaining, a great listen for the Marx purists, or just the beginner getting to know these films for the first time. Sad there is only one film left, and a sad film it is indeed! Great job guys. Thanks for a great ride!
