GLP-1 - Glucagon-like peptide-1 - is a class of medications used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus and, in some cases, obesity. That's the formal definition of the drugs many are using now solely to lose weight. It's the latest in the weight loss war. Nearly 48% of African American adults in the US are clinically obese, and Black women are especially affected as 4 out of every 5 Black women are obese. It was a noble ambition - the creation of a juvenile court where specially trained public servants and benevolent judges would assist children and families. But according to Jane Spinak, author of "The End of Family Court", this dream has never been achieved and children and families continue to be failed by what she calls a "deeply flawed" court. We take an inside look at this unique form of family justice and why Spinak proposes a radical change that "embraces and supports all families in a fair and equal economic and political democracy".
