    Sarah Wheatley runs Birth and Beyond and is a psychotherapist who specialises in issues to do with parenthood.

     

    Sarah is a psychotherapist with over 20 years experience in social research, health promotion and psychology. Her work includes elements from psychoanalytic psychotherapy, attachment theory, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), Video Interaction Guidance and Newborn Observations.

     

    I’ve known Sarah for 10 years and she is a very close friend of mine. In this episode you’ll hear a snippet of our discussions over the last 10 years running our businesses. She shares her experiences of growing her business and her ‘saying yes to everything’ at the start including being interviewed on a high profile radio programme. She talks about how she learned to run a business and the privilege of having support at the start. We speak in depth around the industry, the history of undercharging in this industry, running a business whilst also learning to hone in your skills, tuning into the things you love doing and our love of writing, finding ways of coping and getting help in your business.  This is a really juicy and in depth discussion from two of us who have been working in this industry for a long time.

    Lisa is a Certified Zentangle Teacher and enthusiast of arts and crafts in general. From crochet to knitting and calligraphy to Spirograph, she’s very creative. Zentangle is her main creative outlet. She’s married to Bob and lives in the Southside of Glasgow with their four-year-old daughter Isla. She set up her business recently as she wanted to introduce Zentangle to other people. Up to now, she has mainly been teaching in-person on a one-to-one basis and to groups and is moving to be offering classes online as well and plans to sell products featuring her designs on Etsy.

     

    In this episode Lisa shares her Zentangle business which is like mindful drawing and she shares how she got into this fascinating approach to mindfulness. Lisa talks about how she became a teacher after becoming a mum and how she’s almost followed her head and not her heart in following her passion and getting out her own way. She discusses how she’s taking forward her business and developing funnels and leads to develop her email list to share workshops and her Etsy shop. We discuss email marketing and the importance of focussing of building your email and protecting your business from social media and strategies to grow her email list.

    Caroline is a mum of 5, physio, yoga teacher, reiki master, breath therapist and studio owner as well as a yoga teacher trainer.

     

    She has a little yoga studio and therapy space where she run yoga classes, workshops, courses and retreats. The studio has a treatment room where she see clients for holistic physiotherapy, massage, reiki, breath therapy. She hires out the rooms to other amazing teachers and therapists that make up the little community at The Yoga Den. Away from the studio she run retreats in Scotland and in Portugal and she has an online classes membership.

     

    In this episode we discuss Caroline’s journey building her business and passion for yoga, how she built credibility, moving from workshops to running her own yoga studio. She shares how 5 years ago everything changed for her and how that change made her focus on her yoga business. Caroline shares how her intuition and trust has helped her to take forward her business. At the core of her business is a need to ‘help people’ and she has grown her confidence and belief to help more people. We speak about energy, trust and things happening at the right place and the right time and also community over competition.

    1. Traumatic Birth Recovery College is a training resource for perinatal professionals that she started back in 2016.

    2. Community Interest Company; The Birth Republic which is a not for profit business model that aims make therapy available for all parents experiencing birth trauma, and perinatal anxiety and depression.

     

    In this episode we discuss the importance of the internal work, coaching, learning from coaching containers, the hurdles of doing new things and creating things no one else is doing and when people are telling you not to do things, working through resistance and developing courage and belief, coming back after things haven’t worked, the importance of discipline and consistency.     Iona is the Founder of TestMe Health since 2010 which is an allergy, intolerance and health testing clinic based in Inverness. She serves a very wide and diverse community all over the Highlands, Islands and east coast from toddlers to 100!

     

    In this episode we discuss how Iona moved from barber to property developer to working in allergy testing. She shares how her experience of IBS set her off on her way to becoming an allergy tester. Her business thrives through word of mouth and she’s uniquely placed in Scotland to serve the highlands and islands. Iona is moving her business to offer more remote support so she’s having to learn about social media, SEO and online marketing. We speak about the not being an influencers and how to build trust, blogging, ranking on google and working on building networks. We chat about the importance of lifestyle and mental health and changing habits.

    Gillian is a Coach and Alcohol Free Coach to women and mums. She herself is AlcoholFree myself and is passionate about helping women see that a life without alcohol is all about what you gain and not about giving anything up.

     

    She co-owns Our Circle which is an online community for mums to help them take a break from, or give up, alcohol. It support mums with a 2 month alcohol free challenge before moving on to our ongoing membership community where we explore our lives, needs, expectations and goals as mothers. Our circle help mums realise they deserve more that a glass of wine at the end of a tough day and encourage them to understand and meet their own needs in a healthier more empowering way.

     

    In this episode we discuss how Gillian got into working with alcohol free, mummy wine drinking culture, how they came up with the tag line ‘we deserve more’, alcohol free living and the barriers to it, managing employment with running a business, how business bootcamp moved Gillian and Karen into action and working through the fear, learning how to run a business as well as be a coach, putting yourself out there, moving away from perfectionism and overthinking, juggling, mindset and self belief and the importance of accountability.
