Welcome to The Meat Medic Podcast. I'm your host Dr Suresh Khirwadkar. I'm a GP, Board Certified Lifestyle Physician and Functional Doctor. I help my patients improve their health by focussing on diet, nutrition and other lifestyle changes, and I made this podcast to reach more people and share how to become masters of their own health.

In this podcast we discuss all things related to diet and nutrition and how you can improve your physical and mental health by following the key principles of healthy living.

All of the information is thoroughly researched by myself, as well as drawing on over 20 years of experience and training. I am a Specialist GP as well as a Board Certified Lifestyle Physician, and I have quite extensive training in nutrition having studies with ASLM, IBLM, ACNEM and Diet Doctor.

I work extensively with diet and nutrition in my practice, and use it to help people with a vast array of issues. My focus is on holistic care, preferring to avoid medication prescriptions where possible and instead utilising lifestyle interventions to restore health and balance.

My real passion though is helping people to help themselves. I'm a huge believer in educating my patients and empowering them to prevent and treat chronic diseases themselves. My goal is to get to the point where my patients never actually need me.

    I wanted to do a reaction video to this as I think it covers a lot of really good points. Don't worry, Dr. Shawn Baker (so called king of carnivore) has not gone animal based, but he discusses why he tried adding some fruit and some of the potential benefits of adding carbs to the diet, as well as discussing why his diet is not 100% Carnivore like many people think.
    The most important message I think this video sends, which I think a lot of Carnivores need to hear, is that it's not dogma, it's not a religion, and just a little bit chill on it. Find what works for your body, and be happy.

    Is everything we are taught about cholesterol a lie? Imagine a world where the very medications prescribed to save us from heart disease are, in fact, doing more harm than good. In this episode I dive into a this study that might just turn the tables on conventional wisdom.
    I'm looking at this study from Zhou et al (https://doi.org/10.1186/s12916-024-03288-0) which used data from the UK Biobank study, and it's causing quite a stir on platforms like Reddit. This extensive research, involving over 110,000 participants, may just challenge long-held beliefs about LDL cholesterol and its role in heart disease. But as we peel back the layers, we uncover a narrative even more compelling than LDL's innocence: the potential peril of statins and cholesterol-lowering medications.
    Statins, the go-to solution for cholesterol management, are under the microscope. Could these widely prescribed drugs be linked to an increased risk of death, overshadowing their supposed cardiovascular benefits?

    The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of The Carnivore Diet: What I've Learned as a Doctor (12m+) - Ep 74

    After adopting a strict Carnivore Diet, I've seen some incredible health improvements with patients including resolving gut issues, clearing skin problems, and reducing diabetes medications. Eating just meat has helped many reduce joint pain and enabled me to de-prescribe unnecessary medications.
    However, there are downsides. Some struggle with chronic diarrhoea on theCarnivore Diet and don't experience expected weight loss or energy boosts like everyone claims will happen. The restrictive diet can also cause boredom, social challenges and deep unhappiness with the diet.

    Unfortunately, in some cases carnivore has unveiled ugly outcomes like worsening diabetes, hormone imbalances, heart attacks and complete testicular failure.

    In this video, I share the good, the bad, and the ugly of what I've learned from patients who are on the carnivore diet. I discuss who may benefit from this extreme approach versus who should avoid it. While carnivore helps some people, it's not a cure-all and we need more research on its long-term effects.

Fantastic podcast!

This is a fantastic podcast! Dr. Suresh is so good at explaining complex medical topics in a way that is easy to understand. He makes trying a carnivore diet very approachable. I highly recommend this show!
