59: The Atlantis of Japan: Secrets of the Yonaguni Monument

59: The Atlantis of Japan: Secrets of the Yonaguni Monument

Jinkies! In this episode, we plunge into the deep, mysterious waters off Yonaguni Island, Japan, where something utterly baffling rests beneath the waves. Imagine the shock of diver Kihachiro Aratake in 1986, when, instead of the usual hammerhead sharks, he discovered a colossal structure lurking on the ocean floor. With its precise, sharp angles and enormous, staircase-like formations, this undersea marvel stretches 165 feet long and towers 65 feet wide, much like a submerged pyramid crafted from sandstone and shale.

Is this curious find a trick of nature or a relic from a lost civilization? Enter Masaaki Kimura, a researcher who argues that we might be gazing at remnants of the legendary continent of Mu, hinting at a society that might have rivaled the ancients of Egypt and Maya in its heyday. With eerie statues, animal carvings, and clear signs of advanced engineering like steps and channels, the monument poses a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside the sea. Could this be Japan's own Atlantis, claimed by the ocean's depths in a forgotten disaster? Dive into this episode as we sift through myths and scientific insights to unravel the enigmatic secrets of the Yonaguni Monument.

57: Unsolved Hollywood: The Mystery of Elizabeth Short

57: Unsolved Hollywood: The Mystery of Elizabeth Short

Gee whiz gang, it was a chilling January morning in 1947 when Betty Bersinger, strolling through Leimert Park with her daughter, made a ghastly discovery that looked straight out of a detective novel. At first glance, what she mistook for a discarded mannequin turned out to be the halved body of a woman, posed with eerie precision. This wasn't just any crime scene; it was the gruesome beginning of the mystery surrounding Elizabeth Short, also known as the Black Dahlia. Her body, drained of all blood and sliced with surgical care, laid bare the dark underbelly of Los Angeles.
As the fog of intrigue thickened, Elizabeth's past painted a portrait of a young woman caught in the winds of misfortune and mystery. Moving from Boston to California for a fresh start and better health, Elizabeth's life was a series of fleeting connections and lost dreams, including a brief engagement shattered by wartime tragedy. The last to see her alive was a man entangled in his own contradictions, leaving a trail of questions that led to a dead end at the Biltmore Hotel. Despite the fervor of investigations and over 150 suspects, the chilling tale of the Black Dahlia remains one of the most captivating unsolved mysteries, etched forever in the annals of American crime stories.

Hanging out and chatting with friends.

The Waters brothers and Producer Kim have become some of my best true crime and mysteries friends. Sitting down and listening to them is like chatting with friends. A light hearted discussion of some of life’s mysteries combined with some true crime is so fun. When I need a friendly chat, I always want to sit down with Mystery Inc. while there is a lot of friendly banter, when it is time to discuss victims of true crime, things get serious and respectful. Great balance to some difficult topics. Hoping Mystery Inc. keeps going for a long time!

Jinkies!

Looooooove this podcast! Hoping to become a patron soon. Just had to give Kim some love! I have tried to encourage others to listen but they say they can’t get past the banter. Here’s the thing, actually listen to 3 episodes then tell me if it feels like banter OR like getting in some quality time with friends. Josh has the purest soul and he makes me laugh so hard! The way Shane shows he cares through relentless teasing reminds me so much of my best friend and I. And Kim is so relatable! The way she speaks reminds me so much of where I grew up (small town in KS). And how open she is about the loss of Amber and her journey with grief (both good feelings that hit like when she can acknowledge Amber is trying to tell her something) and sad like life events with Emily she wishes Amber was able to be there for physically. I really do not understand how anyone can’t love all the honest emotion and conversation. It’s okay to laugh, grieve, and tease to the point strangers question your friendship! Give it 3 episodes and you’ll find some gems of good life philosophy in what you may have once felt was “banter”.

Thank you Jesus! 🙌

I look forward to hanging out with my best friends that I’ve never met, each week. Everyone has the best sense of humor and the best laughs. Love all the banter and obviously the stories… but mostly the fun banter. Bless your hearts. ~ Kat
