“The Citizen Stewart Show” is an independent, pull-no-punches podcast from The Branch about the perils and promise of education and democracy. Hosted by Chris “Citizen” Stewart, CEO of Brightbeam, a nonprofit national network of activists fighting for educational opportunity and justice for every child. And co-hosted by Ravi Gupta, former Obama staffer and former superintendent of a network of charter schools in the South. “The Citizen Stewart Show” shines light on the dark forces keeping our students, schools, and democracy mired in counterproductive politics. No headline or issue is off limits, because education is at the heart of everything in America.

Love public schools, appreciate the pod
Chris, in your last stack of questions for Neal McCluskey, the one that didn’t get answered was “What happens to the public option?” once the ESA money starts flowing out of the public system into private schools.
Given 89% of students are in the public system now, that’s a huge question. And if those schools start to fall apart, who will get hit hardest.
In future school choice convos, please explore this! Thanks!!
Thought provoking and fun
I started listening to this show when my kids were getting ready to start school. I’ve continued listening because this show is refreshingly honest and challenging. The hosts are not afraid to question each other and debate ideas while still always keeping the focus on what’s best for our kids.
Every single person needs to listen to this show
Whether you are a business owner, community leader, tax payer, or parent— you must tune into this show. Citizen Stewart finds a way to explain the tensions that our children and schools are facing without placing blame or inciting shame. Instead he unpacks the complexities, shines light on the hard to answer issues, and proposes truly novel solutions.
As a parent in Portland Oregon I wish more of my “soccer mom” friends would tune in so they could see that the progressive agenda is only reifying inequities into our school systems.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to this team for creating this space for all of us. 🙌☺️
