    Timothy Joins Paul and Silas
    1 Then he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a certain Jewish woman who believed, but his father was Greek. 2 He was well spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and Iconium. 3 Paul wanted to have him go on with him. And he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in that region, for they all knew that his father was Greek. 4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees to keep, which were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem. 5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.
    The Macedonian Call
    6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in [a]Asia. 7 After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the [b]Spirit did not permit them. 8 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.
    Lydia Baptized at Philippi
    11 Therefore, sailing from Troas, we ran a straight course to Samothrace, and the next day came to Neapolis, 12 and from there to Philippi, which is the [c]foremost city of that part of Macedonia, a colony. And we were staying in that city for some days. 13 And on the Sabbath day we went out of the city to the riverside, where prayer was customarily made; and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there. 14 Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. 15 And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” So she persuaded us.
    Paul and Silas Imprisoned
    16 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 17 This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” 18 And this she did for many days.But Paul, greatly [d]annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour. 19 But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.20 And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, “These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city; 21 and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe.” 22 Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods. 23 And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. 24 Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the...

    5 “Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Would you build a house for Me to dwell in? 6 For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought the children of Israel up from Egypt, even to this day, but have moved about in a tent and in a tabernacle.

    33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood[a] of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure [b]of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

    9 As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.10 Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”12 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous,but sinners, [a]to repentance.”

    1 Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him rose early and encamped beside the well of Harod, so that the camp of the Midianites was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley.2 And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’

    The Redeemer of Israel1 But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,
    And He who formed you, O Israel:
    “Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
    I have called you by your name;
    You are Mine.
    2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
    And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
    When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
    Nor shall the flame scorch you.
    3 For I am the Lord your God,
    The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
    I gave Egypt for your ransom,
    Ethiopia and Seba in your place.
    4 Since you were precious in My sight,
    You have been honored,
    And I have loved you;
    Therefore I will give men for you,
    And people for your life.
    5 Fear not, for I am with you;
    I will bring your descendants from the east,
    And gather you from the west;
    6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’
    And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’
    Bring My sons from afar,
    And My daughters from the ends of the earth—
    7 Everyone who is called by My name,
    Whom I have created for My glory;
    I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”
    8 Bring out the blind people who have eyes,
    And the deaf who have ears.
    9 Let all the nations be gathered together,
    And let the people be assembled.
    Who among them can declare this,
    And show us former things?
    Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified;
    Or let them hear and say, “It is truth.”
    10 “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord,
    “And My servant whom I have chosen,
    That you may know and believe Me,
    And understand that I am He.
    Before Me there was no God formed,
    Nor shall there be after Me.
    11 I, even I, am the Lord,
    And besides Me there is no savior.
    12 I have declared and saved,
    I have proclaimed,
    And there was no foreign god among you;
    Therefore you are My witnesses,”
    Says the Lord, “that I am God.
    13 Indeed before the day was, I am He;
    And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand;
    I work, and who will reverse it?”
    14 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
    The Holy One of Israel:
    “For your sake I will send to Babylon,
    And bring them all down as fugitives—
    The Chaldeans, who rejoice in their ships.
    15 I am the Lord, your Holy One,
    The Creator of Israel, your King.”
    16 Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea
    And a path through the mighty waters,
    17 Who brings forth the chariot and horse,
    The army and the power
    (They shall lie down together, they shall not rise;
    They are extinguished, they are quenched like a wick):
    18 “Do not remember the former things,
    Nor consider the things of old.
    19 Behold, I will do a new thing,
    Now it shall spring forth;
    Shall you not know it?
    I will even make a road in the wilderness
    And rivers in the desert.
    20 The beast of the field will honor Me,
    The jackals and the ostriches,
    Because I give waters in the wilderness
    And rivers in the desert,
    To give drink to My people, My chosen.
    21 This people I have formed for Myself;
    They shall declare My praise.

    Isaiah 43:1-21
