EP 38 | Must We Root for "Everybody Black?"

EP 38 | Must We Root for "Everybody Black?"

“I’m Rooting for Everybody Black” has become a bit of a rallying cry to indicate our unwavering support for Black creatives, entrepreneurs, techies — anybody that’s repping Black excellence. But the expectation that “Everybody Black” deserves our support can also be an errant one.
The death of OJ Simpson brings this topic into greater focus, and it’s worth taking another look at this age-old question in light of what his ascent and downfall meant to the Black community.
Are we required to lend our unquestioned support to Black folks simply because they’re “our” people? When is it okay to withdraw our support from Black folks that we deem problematic, and why is this so hard to talk about?

    EP 37 | Medical Racism

    EP 37 | Medical Racism

Medical racism is one of the most under-addressed topics in discussions around healthcare. Maybe that’s because most people don’t really know what it is, or how deeply it impacts communities of color — particularly Black people. Many don’t know it exists at all.
But as you’ll hear in this week’s episode, medical racism can kill. In this week’s podcast, I’m bringing you two Breakdowns on racism within the medical community that highlight the dire state of healthcare within the Black community — cases that provide irrefutable proof that medical disparities do exist along color lines.
We’ll discuss the many forms that medical racism can take, and we’ll talk about solutions as well.

EP 36 | The Politics of White Grievance

EP 36 | The Politics of White Grievance

White Grievance is big business. And it's increasingly becoming a more reliable winning strategy on the right. As more and more "Trumpists" are elected to political office, we're beginning to see conspiracies like "The Great Replacement Theory" and "white erasure' be mainstreamed by heroes of the right like Tucker Carlson, Elon Musk and Trump himself.

These are no longer the fringe rantings of unhinged political extremists -- these are widely accepted conservative beliefs that are picking up steam with the help of some of the nation's most prominent conservative voices.

And White Grievance has real world consequences. On multiple occasions, the dissemination of these harmful philosophies has led to mass murder. We're going to talk about what we can do to combat this pervasive ideology.

EP 35 - Voting Rights are Under Attack

EP 35 - Voting Rights are Under Attack

There has not been a time in U.S. history where the constitutionally protected right to vote has not been under attack for marginalized groups. It's nothing new. It's just a shame that this is still the case in 2024. I'm covering the attack on voting rights, and getting into the long history of challenges to voting for Black and brown people, young people, etc.
How are these tactics being reinforced in 2024? We'll use Georgia as a case study, as they're leading the way in voter roll purges at the moment. Be sure to visit www.vote.org to check up on your voter registration to make sure it’s active.

EP 34 | DEI and Affirmative Action are Under Attack

EP 34 | DEI and Affirmative Action are Under Attack

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs are being scrapped all over the country in favor of a 'colorblind' narrative that attempts to minimize the impact of systemic racism on our present day reality. I'm taking a look at the recent move by the Alabama Legislature and Alabama governor Kay Ivey to outlaw DEI programs throughout the state, and to severely control the language used in racial sensitivity training.

I'm also profiling Edward Blum, the man responsible for the outlawing of Affirmative Action and for the gutting the Voting Rights Act.

EP 33 | Jamelle Bouie on Black Voters and the 2024 Election

EP 33 | Jamelle Bouie on Black Voters and the 2024 Election

Jamelle Bouie is one of the leading voices at the intersection of politics, history and race in the United States. He's a writer for the New York Times, a frequent contributor to CBS News and he has a thriving TikTok channel where he elucidates current affairs for younger audiences.

I sat down with Jamelle to discuss the upcoming election season, and to bring into focus many of the issues that Black voters are focused on. We discussed whether these issues will be on the 'front burner' this year, and we talked about some of the issues that don't get as much attention, like the Voting Rights Act, and how that will impact us all in the coming year.

I'm looking forward to having Jamelle on the show as often as possible leading up to the 2024 election. Follow him on TikTok here:
