Finally, the city of Rome's own podcast Roma Oltre le Mura has got an English sibling: Rome Inside Out.
Here, architects Marta Giovannetti and Erik Ingvert, who also make Roma Oltre le Mura, talk about Italy's mythical capital outside the tourist routes. This is the podcast for you who love Italy, history, design, architecture, film, and food.
We encounter typical Roman characters, places and phenomena mixed with historical facts, current events, and personal anecdotes. The city's architecture and the "new, slightly cooler Rome" have a special place, mixed with film history, art, and literature. And of course, food, new and iconic cafes, restaurants, and bar life also have a given place.
The podcast focuses on the aspects of the city that often escape at first sight and urges listeners to stop and look at Rome with new eyes and discover everything in Rome - beyond the walls.
The podcast is aired once a month.

Hosts: Erik Ingvert and Marta Giovannetti

Hygiene routines from Ancient Rome and Opera inside the ruins - welcome to Caracalla!
The baths of Caracalla were one of biggest and most decorated constructions of the Ancient Rome. We’re telling the story from pools, bathtubs, old toothpastes, all the way to our days and the out-door opera productions in the middle of the old baths.
We also meet Federico Ruiz, dancer, and choreographer, who shares with us his amazing experiences of dancing on the unique Caracalla stage in operas as The Barber of Seville and La Traviata, through old columns, orchestra strikes and seagull poop
Music: J-AX & Fedez - Italiana; Modigliani– Nuotare; La traviata, Act II: Dammi tu forza, o cielo!;  Il Trovatore, Act II, Scene 1

High and low – from soccer to opera, from spiders to frogs to artistic celebrations and Nutella with ham... Don’t miss this!
Quartiere Coppedè is one of the hidden marvels of Rome, in the middle of a posh residential district you'll find this little fairy-tale village: architecture that takes inspiration from all possible époque’s and styles, sculptures, animals, details – and a chandelier in the middle of the street!
Marta explains where the names come from, we learn who the architect Gino Coppedè was, and why Coppedè is a beautiful place, but maybe not the ideal place for a first date!
Music: Sia - Chandelier; La Rappresentante di lista – Ciao ciao. Film tips: Inferno – Dario Argento

Spring is in the air, Erik has become a real (pale) Italian and Marta reveals the real reason for coming to Rome soon…
Rome is one of the European capital cities with the most green area in proportion to the city’s total surface. And oh, do romans know how to use them!
Marta tells us about the “villas”, the historic countryside homes that became our public parks: Villa Borghese, Villa Ada, Villa Doria Pamphilij and many more, while Erik goes to Parco Degli Acquedotti to celebrate April 25th and the Liberation day. Why the aqueducts? Why picnic?
And how much do you have to pay to get yourself your own piece of Villa Ludovisi?
Music: Ace of Base – Life is a flower; Milva – Bella Ciao!; Dean Martin – On an evening in Roma (Sott’er celo de Roma)

    02_The Square Colosseum

    02_The Square Colosseum

Ancient & modern, fascist & fashion, beans & whine, asexual & Anita Ekberg –This episode is everything that Rome stands for: contradictions & surprises.
This time we'll take you out to EUR and the second Colosseum of Rome. Yes, it's true, there are two Colosseums, one circular and one square shaped – to keep them apart. We'll focus on the square shaped Colosseum, that was constructed by the fascists in the end of the 1930's to host part of the 1942 World Fair of Rome.
Why a world fair? Why so many arches? Why was Anita Ekberg 30 meters tall in a Fellini film? All these questions will have their answers (and many more will arise).
Erik also presents for you the spring combination of broad beans and cheese, and Marta talks about canoe sports in the fake lake of EUR. And what do young Italians really do in their cars?
Music: Elodie – Bagno a mezzanotte, Nino Rota – Bevete più latte! , Lizzy Mercier Descloux – Milk Sheik

Film tips: Le tentazioni di dottor Antonio – Federico Fellin from Boccaccio '70

And finally we are on air in English!* Welcome to Rome Inside Out!

We start this adventure with a trip to Pigneto, a bubbling neighborhood just outside the historical center of the Italian capital.

Our hosts, Erik and Marta, take you for a little walk-around, stopping by the monstrous (or beautiful?) urban highway “tangenziale”, a 2000-year-old mausoleum and the picturesque bar Necci. We’ll hear about cutting grass with a sickle, where to keep the wine bottles and where to have you romantic date if you want to get married. Marta explains what “movida” means and we learn why Pasolini used Bach music in his films.

    Enjoy!

Music: L.E.D - Roma Pigneto, Tiziano Ferro - L amore è una cosa semplice, Bach - Wir setzen uns mit Tränen nieder - Passione secondo Matteo
Film tips: Accattone, Pier Paolo Pasolin 1961 ; Fantozzi, Luciano Salce 1975
