Economic Craziness, 401k match and Brandi Carlile

Weeeee're back for Season 2! Boy howdy has some epic shit gone down. Student loan forgiveness, inflation, rising rates, it’s a bit chaotic. But don’t worry, we’re here with some sympathy and a bit of context. We also address a classic 401k contribution vs. paying off some student debt. We then cover the amazing song "You and Me on the Rock" by Brandi Carlile.

Diversification, Talking w/kids about money & Red Hot Chili Peppers

Diversification, Talking w/kids about money & Red Hot Chili Peppers

Linds & Jules start by talking about something they know very little about. The war in Ukraine. Then they talk about something they know slightly more about. The economy. Which leads to an inevitable discussion around how to protect yourself from the winds of economic changes as best you can through diversification. They bemoan the fact that they both love Euphoria and chat about how to talk with kids about money. Finally, we finish up with a cover of Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication. It’s a good time y’all.  They don’t actually get into any questions today because sometimes…you just wanna talk about what you wanna talk about.

Student loans, Asset classes & Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Student loans, Asset classes & Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

This week we discuss our personal themes for 2022, Julia recounts Covid craziness and we tackle the age-old argument around following your passion vs. making money. Oh…and we talk about asset diversification. Like ya do.  Here are links to some helpful things we referenced and the two questions we answered.  Student Loan Planner: https://www.studentloanplanner.com/
    You Need A Budget: https://www.youneedabudget.com/
Q1 - My partner and I are approaching a major change in our life. She will be graduating from law school at the end of the year (I'm so proud of her!) and will start working in her career. She feels pressured to look for jobs that are higher paying because of the law school student debt. I don't want her to go into a sector for the money instead of passion.
Also, I have been working for several years and have paid off my student debt in that time on my own. We keep finances separate, except shared expenses where she pays a smaller percentage from less work time due to school.
I want to make her student debt a shared expense, but she is resistant to agreeing. How do we compromise on this topic?
Q2 - What distribution of assets would you recommend? What percentage of my savings should be in real estate, stocks, cash, etc..?

Stockbrokers, Fiancée Finance & Tierra Whack

Stockbrokers, Fiancée Finance & Tierra Whack

In this episode Linds & Jules get real about the value of friendship and Linds also gets into a bit of the nitty gritty of her harrowing coming out journey. They also address the following questions surrounding stock brokers and learning to budget as an engaged couple.
What is the benefit that stock brokers and intermediates offer to mankind? Is generating more money for the sake of it helping society in any way?
My fiancée and I have lived together for a year, thinking of making a joint budget.Any tips on how to avoid this feeling like a prison, or score keeping, etc... I'm conscious this will result in fights and feeling like we have to explain every purchase.Any tips of splitting the budget? This probably sounds crazy but as I earn a fair bit more, I pay for every household bill from food to mortgage, then she just puts in whatever she can that month. I'm thinking maybe we both pay the same % of our income into it? One of us gets paid weekly, one monthly too. Thanks in advance!

Financial Know-How

As a huge fan of Two Cents, I was so excited to hear Julia had a podcast and it does not disappoint. It’s great to get real life money advice and hear from real people who have the same financial questions I do.

So in love with this podcast 🥰

I’ve been looking for a good financial podcast for a while now and THIS is it! Julia and Lindsay are so incredibly lovely and welcoming, which is super refreshing for a topic that can be so scary. They are super informative and knowledgeable but explain everything in a really approachable way. Also, I’ve binged all the episodes in like, 3 days. Love y’all!
