End Of Pac12 And Passing Of Bill Walton With His Broadcast Partner Roxy Bernstein And More | LWOS Media Podcast

End Of Pac12 And Passing Of Bill Walton With His Broadcast Partner Roxy Bernstein And More | LWOS Media Podcast

It's the latest edition of our look at sports media and the overall looming subject is the passing of Bill Walton, NBA playing legend and legendary off beat, humorous TV analyst for hoops for the past four decades. We discuss it with a special guest wtih insight and more on "The Last Word On Sports Media Podcast."

Host T.J. Rives has his thoughts on the current events in sports media, including the NBA Playoffs and Stanley Cup Playoffs winding down, wondering why ESPN's Sean McDonough didn't cover his NHL assignment last Friday night in NYC "due to Illness," yet it was immediately known that he COULD work the Sunday afternoon broadcast of the next game of the series over 1,000 miles away?!

He explains that and goes over the TV ratings for the weekend that include the rain delayed Indy 500 in the mix with the pro hoops and hockey.

And, next T.J. talks with Pac12/ESPN broadcaster Roxy Bernstein, who broadcasted the final games of the Pac12's conference history (for now) with the finish of their baseball tournament this past Sunday night. Roxy talks about his emotional preparation for saying goodbye on the final live broadcast of the Pac12 network and then, the final Pac12 game, the championship of the baseball tourney.

Roxy then has heartfelt thoughts and tribute to Bill Walton after working with him over a decade in his college hoop capacities. This includes Walton making sure that Roxy was reading enough, and not sports only.

Golf Channel Non Coverage Of Scottie Scheffler Arrest + Indy 500/Coca Cola 600 And More | LWOS Media Podcast

Golf Channel Non Coverage Of Scottie Scheffler Arrest + Indy 500/Coca Cola 600 And More | LWOS Media Podcast

A truly sensational and bizarre sports story emerged last Friday in Louisville, KY, as #1 golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, was arrested by police officers after a misunderstanding at the front of the Valhalla Golf Club. And, we're ready to discuss what ESPN did amazingly well and what the Golf Channel was pathetically behind on, the entire morning/day.

We ready to discuss that with a special guest and have a lot more on the massive racing weekend from Indianapolis to Charlotte to Monte Carlo, too on the "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast."

Host T.J. Rives brings aboard Andrew Bucholtz of AwfulAnnouncing.com, to discuss the Scheffler arrest coverage, as he wrote about it for that site. The guys debate what Golf Channel did not do and what they very easily could have done in covering such a huge story in their niche'. They also debate whether the Golf Channel is done as an entity that fans can rely on to cover/analyze and report on the game and it's players/events or if it's just a hub to show golf tournament broadcasts at this point?

Next, the talk turns to the auto racing and T.J. turns to Phil de Montmollin of the "Announcer Schedules Podcast" and Twitter handle to interview their mutual friend and racing enthusiast Joe Castello. Joe has tremendous insight into the newest running of the Indy 500 Sunday in America's hearland and also, NASCAR's most grueling afternoon and night in the Coca Cola 600 in Charlotte.
The guys talk about it all and also tell some great stories about covering the 500 on separate occasions earlier this century and what it's all like?

Hear it all on the "Last Word on Sports Media" podcast and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreker/Spotify, etc.!

Such incredible stories

The guests which George has interviewed have been amazing to hear. The one that had me laughing the most was John Rooney. I am thinking that radio bingo might become the next neat thing on someone’s podcast—depending on which topic that podcast is discussed.

Overall, this podcast is first rate and should definitely belong as appointment listening.

Confused

I’m enjoying “Tell Me a Story” but confused as to why it’s showing up under the Sports Media podcast. Seems like a mistake.

Great stroll down memory lane

George is a radio icon and I have great memories from his long time run at the Score. It’s great to hear the behind the scenes stories when all I really knew were the snippets of sound from the radio. Really great guests that seem to immediately open to George and reveal things I’ve never heard before. The title of the Pod fits! Keep up the amazing episodes and I’ll continue listening!
