    Oh What A Savior

    Oh What A Savior

Pastor Jamie concludes our "Seven Sayings From The Cross" series this week.

The story of the crucifixion is brutal. It's easy to read it and think of Jesus as a victim. This was Jesus' plan though, and he was in control from beginning to end.

In chapter 23 Luke tells us:

"while the sun's light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, 'Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!' And having said this he breathed his last."

Right up to the end of his life Jesus was obediently working for our salvation. He called loudly. That doesn't sound like somebody feebly succumbing to his injuries. That sounds like somebody who was still full of life, who could still fight. He didn't need to fight for his life though. He was there to fight for us. So he went for the knock out blow. Jesus got the checkmate against the enemy.

The enmity that the enemy had been sowing between God and humans ever since the garden was torn in two. No longer do we have to rely on complex rituals to allow one high priest to enter the presence of God on our behalf. Jesus, in a loud voice that shook the Earth, tore that curtain in two, because we would never need it again. He made himself the way to our heavenly father.

It doesn't matter if you're the powerful Pharisee on the road to Damascus or the lowly thief who thinks he deserves death on a cross. Whoever you are, if you believe in Jesus, then you are welcome to join him. You are welcome to commit your spirit to him, not just in death, but every day of your life.

    τετέλεσται

    Tetelestai: "It is finished"

It can be really satisfying to finish something you've been working on. It's probably pretty rare to look back and think all your work went perfectly. Nothing could have gone better, there's no room for improvement or additions. This is what Jesus means though when he says it is finished. He knew humanity couldn't earn its way into heaven so he carried out a perfect plan:

He took human form while somehow remaining God

He lived a perfectly obedient life despite feeling every human temptation

He delivered himself into the hands of those he knew would condemn him

He accepted the false charges against him just as he accepted our sin which he had no part in

He allowed himself to die to take the punishment that we are all owed

He looked to the Father throughout all of this and for his faith he was risen from death

He ascended and took his seat next to the Father because his work is finished. It is finished.

Believe that this is what he did for you.
Obey his teachings because he knows better than we do.
Worship him in celebration of all he has done.

Find others to share this with, whether they've heard it before or not. We all need to be reminded of what has been done, and that it is finished.

Well done

Cornerstone does a really good job with all their media productions. If you have other forms of video media available to you their video stuff is great too. Cornerstone is a Gospel centered church that teaches the Bible and usually does expository preaching but will occasionally do a series or topic.

Pastor Jamie’s ask series is where anyone can submit a question ranging from vague to specific and he’ll try to Biblically answer it, he’ll have guests on with certain topics too depending on the question, usually someone who is experience with the situation surrounding the question. Pastor Bob’s wisdom 828 is great too. He takes a topic and thoroughly dissects it.

Strong content all around.
