Breathing: The Simple Practice to Transform Your Health and Vitality

Did you know that the simple act of breathing can have a profound impact on your mental and physical well-being? Most of us take around 22,000 breaths per day without even realizing it, but what if we could harness the power of our breath to improve our health?

In my latest solo episode of The Darren Olien Show, I dive deep into the science and benefits of intentional breathwork. By consciously slowing down our breathing and engaging in specific breathing practices, we can accomplish several health benefits, like reducing stress and anxiety.  Whether it's through diaphragmatic breathing, pranayama, or the Wim Hof method, incorporating just 5-20 minutes of breathwork into your daily routine can have significant positive effects.

If you're interested in learning more about this powerful tool for wellness, I highly encourage you to listen to this informative podcast episode. My insights and expertise will inspire you to start breathwork of your own for a healthier, happier life.

Mike Posner: Turning Pain to Purpose, Becoming an Inspiration and Living A Genuinely Happy Life

Mike Posner: Turning Pain to Purpose, Becoming an Inspiration and Living A Genuinely Happy Life

Life is a journey of continuous growth, where experiences serve as feedback to nourish our spiritual evolution. Amidst emotional, physical, or spiritual pain lies the opportunity for inspiration, breakthrough, and transformation.

In these moments, we should look for the lessons hidden within the challenges rather than becoming victims of our pain. Learning from our pain requires a radical shift in perspective and action. This is the key to overcoming fear, activating our dreams, and translating inspiration into tangible pursuits.

In the latest episode of The Darin Olien Show, I sit down with Mike Posner as he shares his transformative journey of turning pain into purpose. Mike's pivotal moment came from a series of devastating losses, including the passing of his father and friends. Despite achieving material success, an underlying sense of sadness lingered, compelling him to seek a more fulfilling path. Exhausted by the cycle of passive inspiration without action and recognizing the need to break free from comfort and approval-seeking, Mike took a radical shift. He embarked on a soul-searching journey: a solo trek across America.

In our discussion, Mike shares insights from his quest for self-inspiration, shedding light on his decision to pivot and embrace discomfort as a catalyst for personal growth, inspiration, and genuine connection. He also provides practical advice for listeners to live a purposeful, present, and happy life.

Mike is a singer and producer, and despite his success, he embarked on a transformative journey, setting aside the comforts of fame to trek across America. He walked solo from Asbury Park, New Jersey, to Venice Beach, California, covering 2,851 miles. Along the way, he faced challenges, including a rattlesnake bite that led to an emergency helicopter ride to a Colorado ICU. Rejecting hero status, Mike aimed to inspire others by embracing discomfort and building resilience. Known for hits like "Cooler Than Me" and "I Took a Pill in Ibiza," his journey symbolizes personal growth and transformation.

    What we discuss…

(00:00) How being around good energy helps you show up differently
(04:30) Relationships and how they are inspiring Mike's life and craft
(12:07) Shifting pain to purpose: activating your dream, showing up, and going for it.
(18:02) Creating a future that makes the present bearable and exciting
(20:09) The vision that inspired Mike to walk across the United States
(23:11) Overcoming the chasm that keeps us from living a genuinely happy life
(32:10) Three distractions pulling us away from living from an inspired action path
(42:16) How to overcome resistance and be unstoppable when hit by adversity
(49:29) What Mike is excited about and is creating right now

    Feeling lonely or disconnected lately?

I go rogue in my latest solo episode because I want to discuss rediscovering the importance of connection. How to Lose Weight without Calorie Counting

How to Lose Weight without Calorie Counting

Could your plate of greens be the secret to shedding those stubborn pounds?

In today’s episode on the Darin Olien Show, I talk with Dr. Neal Barnard about the science behind the weight loss wonders of a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. From a landmark 2005 study providing a fresh perspective on appetite control to metabolism-boosting recipes, we're unveiling a world where counting calories becomes obsolete, and where foods like cinnamon and blueberries earn the title of 'power foods.'

This conversation stands as a testament to the might of plant-based proteins and the truths about soy in men's health. We tackle the misunderstandings head-on, debunking fears with evidence that highlights soy's cancer-fighting properties and the real effects of dairy on our hormonal balance. Our conversation may just be the catalyst you need to re-evaluate your protein sources and embrace the multitude of benefits that come from plants.

Dr. Barnard has led numerous research studies investigating the effects of diet on diabetes, body weight, hormonal symptoms, and chronic pain, including a groundbreaking study of dietary interventions in type 2 diabetes. Dr. Barnard has authored more than 100 scientific publications and 20 books for medical and lay readers, and is the editor in chief of the Nutrition Guide for Clinicians.

    Bug Spray | Fatal Conveniences™

    Bug Spray | Fatal Conveniences™

We’re outnumbered, folks! The estimated number of insects to humans is 200 million to one. This is a battle we will most definitely lose. Yet, we try in vain. In this hive of insect activity, repellents can help you steer clear of nasty stings and bites. But is our reliance on bug sprays harming our health?
Mosquitos are a pest! Every year, a third of us will cover ourselves with almost five pounds of bug repellent to keep those blood-thirsty bugs at bay. Okay, so there is a good reason to do so. After all, there are many mosquito and tick-transmitted diseases to ward off: West Nile virus, malaria, and Lyme Disease, to name a couple. So, I’m not here to tell you that protecting yourself from bites isn’t important. But, if the repellent you’re using can fend off mosquitoes, maybe what it’s doing to you isn’t so great either.
In this Fatal Conveniences™, I break down the most common toxic chemicals lurking in insect repellents, such as DEET (N, N-Diethyl-3-methylbenzamide), the granddaddy of them all. I also explain how these repellents affect children and the simple things you can do today to keep insects away without sacrificing your health.
Bugs, insects, insects, Insecta, or insectum—whatever you call our hexapod invertebrates, these creepy critters are vital for our ecosystems. So, finding non-harmful, preventative alternatives is crucial for the survival of not only us as a species but also this incredible planet that we live on.

Great Show!

I have been following Darin since the first episode of Down to Earth. I always tell people that his book Superlife was the one that opened the door to a whole new life for me. I guess I’m a super fan! I love the way he cares about giving the right information. His was the first podcast I listened and have been enjoying all the interviews!

Interesting & Informative Content

I have watched all of the Down to Earth episodes multiple times. Love it!

I read Fatal Conveniences and use it for reference often. I read Superlife and appreciate the action info in the back.

I really enjoy this podcast, especially the interviews with naturopaths and people with eco businesses.

My constructive criticism is - during interviews Darin should let the guests do more of the talking. Several episodes he does most of the talking and the listener doesn’t get to know the guest at all. My most recent listen was with the eco babe, and I was disappointed to not learn anything about her journey or businesses.

Authentic and Straightforward

What I appreciate most about Darin is his ability to mix his passionate personality with straightforward common sense. Never does he tell you WHAT to do with your life. He gives you the facts, and the rest of up to you. I enjoy how fired up he gets when talking about things that light his fire - the truth will either set you free or set you on fire. I also appreciate the mix between physical health and mental health topics. I look forward to each of his podcasts!
