- A Reconstructionist Podcast -Christian AF was born after a few long conversations over good beers, where we realized that life, and faith, aren't as simple as we grew up believing. We started wondering why asking questions was frowned upon, or why we had to accept what we've always been told as the truth. Maybe some things aren't as black and white as we'd like to think. So, we set out to create a space to have an HONEST dialogue that welcomes questions, doubts, and fears about faith, church culture, and everything in between. The three of us behind the mics are no experts, but our goal is to help listeners start asking questions or maybe even find some answers. Christian AF is a podcast for people that are over church, have been burned by church, don’t get church, or have been told not to question their faith. So as we like to say, kick back, grab a drink, and start questioning!(Christian AF is based out of Rockford, IL run by members for Grassroots Church).

    Episode 102 - Volunteer Abuse

    Episode 102 - Volunteer Abuse

Right smack in the middle of trying to build a stronger community, the topic of volunteering in church stirs up more than just dust. It's a whirlwind of questions: Are we asking too much from our volunteers? Is there a thin line between utilizing skills and outright exploitation? And what about burnout – that silent thief that sneaks up on the most willing of spirits? This week, Jesse, Evan, and Jen tackle these questions head-on, dissecting the delicate balance of volunteerism within church walls.
From the silent expectations to the loud cries for help, we sift through the complexities of leadership, commitment, and the true essence of serving. Is it possible to create a space where volunteering feels more like a two-way street and less like a one-way ticket to exhaustion?
Pour a drink, grab a seat, and join us as we wade through the volunteer vortex, searching for the sweet spot between giving too little and asking too much.

Laugh and Learn

If you’re looking for a space to dig into harder questions, but you don’t take yourself too seriously, this is your jam. These people are fun to listen to while they’re humbly tackling really important stuff. Good combo of host personalities. In a world that’s got LOTS to figure out, this is a good place to start.

Great podcast with fun hosts. Could use some host balance though

I like this podcast - I think they’re doing some good work here, and they seem like good people overall. Probably fun to hang out with. I don’t get bored listening, and I like that it’s not another bro fest with 2 guys just “uh huh”-ing each other and there’s a woman on to give her perspective.
That said, while I don’t think they mean to do it, the guys interrupt her a lot - and sometimes when she starts making a point from her perspective- especially when being a woman makes the experience different -they seem to just not believe what she says or that her experience is real, or don’t take it seriously. I don’t blame them personally and I don’t think they’re sexist - it’s one of those things that’s baked into us growing up, but I hope they’ll be mindful of it in more shows and do better over time.
Anyway, I will definitely keep listening!
