The Vibe That Is Data
Positively Trek 269: The Vibe That Is Data
Part 2: Data in Nemesis, Picard, and Beyond…
Warning: This episode contains spoilers for all three seasons of Star Trek: Picard, as well as minor spoilers for the first episode of Star Trek: Discovery’s fifth and final season.
Data is one of the most enduring and beloved characters in the Star Trek universe. When the character was killed off in the film Star Trek Nemesis, many Trek fans believed that he would one day be back. Now, thanks to Star Trek: Picard, they have been proven right when Data was raised from the dead not once, but twice!
In this episode of Positively Trek, hosts Barry and Dan continue their two-part discussion of Data. We talk about his death in Nemesis, what that death means in the larger context of pop culture, his first resurrection in season one of Star Trek: Picard, his (extremely) extended family, and finally his most recent incarnation in Picard’s third season!

Positively Trek 267: Book Club: Morn’s Little Partner in Crime
Deep Space Nine: The Dog of War
At the height of the Dominion War, Deep Space Nine receives an unexpected guest: a priceless purebred corgi, which Quark names Latinum. Along with the adorable canine comes a mysterious Borg component which might help the Federation and its allies win the war… or spell doom for the entire Alpha Quadrant.
In this episode of the Positively Trek Book Club, hosts Dan and Brandi discuss Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Dog of War, a comic miniseries from IDW that was recently released as a graphic novel. We talk about all five issues, including Quark’s discovery of his love of one dog in particular, Sisko’s dilemma, and the mysterious shadowy organization with the ridiculous name “The Brokers on the Black Market.”

He’s Already More Human Than Human
Positively Trek 266: He’s Already More Human Than Human
Data: Part One
When Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered in 1987, Star Trek fans were given an entire new cast of characters to love. One character in particular proved to be extremely popular: the sentient android, Lt. Commander Data.
In this episode of Positively Trek, hosts Barry and Dan continue their series on the characters of Star Trek by highlighting our favourite automaton. We talk about his introduction, compare him to TOS’s Spock, and discuss the impact his character had on us and on the rest of Trek fandom.
There is a lot to talk about with regards to Data, so this is just part one of a two-part exploration of his character.

Book Club: Seven of Nine Knows Her Name!
Positively Trek 265: Book Club: Seven of Nine Knows Her Name!
Picard: Firewall with David Mack & Guest Host Jessie Gender
In this episode of the Positively Trek Book Club, Dan Gunther and guest host Jessie Gender welcome David Mack to the show to discuss his new novel, Star Trek: Picard: Firewall.
When the USS Voyager returned to Earth, Seven of Nine’s life looked promising: Earth, the bastion of acceptance and equality, stood ready to accept the former Borg with open arms. Right?
Reality proved to be very different from what had been promised, and soon Seven finds herself on the outside looking in. Refused a commission in Starfleet, and even denied Federation membership, she sets out to find herself, beginning a journey that would eventually lead to the Fenris Rangers and the Seven that we meet in the series Star Trek: Picard.

Star Trek Explorer Presents: “The Mission” and Other Stories - Part 1 of 2
We here at the Positively Trek Book Club pride ourselves on covering every new Star Trek novel that is released. However, the releases are fewer and farther between these days. Thankfully, there are many places for us to go to get our Star Trek fiction fix!
The Star Trek Explorer magazine has been publishing original Star Trek short stories since it started in 2021, showcasing unique corners of the Trek universe and written by some of the biggest names in Star Trek writing. In February of 2024, the most recent hardcover collection of these stories was released: Star Trek Explorer Presents: “The Mission” and Other Stories, featuring 14 of the short stories from recent issues.
In this episode of the Positively Trek Book Club, host Dan Gunther welcomes Bruce Gibson back to the show to discuss the first 7 of the stories featured in this collection. We discuss:
“Control” by John Peel
“The Guardian” by Gary Russell
“The Disavowed” by Christopher Cooper
“Paghabi” by Chris Dows
“Pulaski 2.0” by Greg Cox
“The Expert” by Gary Russell
“Scramble” by Greg Cox
The remaining 7 stories in the collection will be featured in a future episode.

Positively Wonderful Podcast
Followed them over from Literary Treks and boy oh boy, I just love ‘em.
A very thorough look at Star Trek while also being positive. Not afraid to be critical, though - the things we love can also disappoint us. But any criticism is never done in bad faith.
That’s the fun of loving something - you love it wholly, flaws and all. Which is why this pod rules.
Lives up to the name!
Just a really wholesome and and respectful and lovely bunch of folks talking about Star Trek! This show feels like sitting down to a warm cup of coffee in the morning.
