Can the Lakers actually develop JJ Redick?

PART TWO: After discussing the process that has led to the seemingly inevitable hire of JJ Redick, Anthony and the Kamenetzky brothers discuss whether or not they think the Lakers have the wherewithal and patience to develop a young head coach. This seems fairly important as they prepare to hire a rookie in more ways than most.

Lakers Offseason Question

If a package of Rui, Gabe, JHS, DLo & Cam (opt ins) nets you Lavine/AC or Dejounte Murray/Kuz with the difference being 1 pick & maybe seconds for the former vs all 3 picks and likely pick swap for the latter. Which would you do? I understand concerns about Lavine contract but also consider the cap going up in coming years and also Lebrons eventual departure. In either situation, goal would be to move Reaves to 6th man, sign Drummond sized back up big and move Wood to backup 4. Lean into identity of size and athleticism, especially with Bron & AD with team USA this summer.

Caruso | Reaves

Lavine | Christie

Vando | TP

Bron | Wood

AD | Drummond

or

Dejounte | Reaves

Vando (POA Def, Cutter Off) | Christie

Kuz | TP

Bron | Wood

AD | Drummond

Lakers Free Agency Preview

Hands down my favorite Laker insider podcast! Anthony Irwin keeps it 1000% as a journalist & a true Laker fan. With all the Laker trade options (or lack there of) could you see the Lakers being forced to deal with Chicago in search of a bargain steal with their remaining assets? As recent reports indicate the Bulls being more open to attach a pick with Lavine to off load his contract. Could you see the Bulls/Lakers being interested in 2 (Laker) 1sts for Lavine+Caruso+Drummond? (For DLo, Rui, & Gabe or JHS)

Austin Reaves value

Hey, Anthony, Not my first review, but as always, the best Lakers pod out there. Love it; keep it up.

I was wondering what you think Austin Reaves’ value is. I continue to hear teams asking for multiple firsts for players—Wendell Carter, Kuz, DFS—that I think are no better than, if not as good as Austin. I see teams getting firsts for players like PJ Washington and Daniel Gaffert, who are decent rotation players. Yet when Austin’s name comes up, it’s always in the context of him plus (not including players to make salaries match) multiple firsts. I don’t think he’s that much worse than Murray or Young, for example, that so much more should be added.

I am not in favor of trading Austin, at all, but if I did, I wouldn’t value him at less than two firsts (1 unprotected), or an unprotected first and a swap or two. I’d rather do that and fill the cupboard with firsts for a blockbuster trade than sell him at what I perceive to be on the cheap.

How do you see this? Thanks.
