    357 - Healthy Separation

    357 - Healthy Separation

“Separation” is usually a swear word for church folk.
This is understandable when it’s done wrong. But separation can actually be a healthy tool used for the restoration of a marriage.
Today, we’re joined by a Pure Desire Clinician, Eileen Fagan, who defines a healthy or “therapeutic” separation and the benefits it can give a struggling couple. We talk through natural hesitations or fears with marital separation, when NOT to separate, and the importance of professional help and support in marital separations.

    356 - Reconciling Addiction & Theology

    356 - Reconciling Addiction & Theology

When Christians are faced with the word “addiction,” there can be a significant reaction against something we don’t see clearly in Scripture. The word “addiction” doesn’t naturally seem to fit into our theological framework.

Today, we’re joined by author and speaker, Ben Bennett, to give us a new framework for reconciling addiction and theology. We explore how Scripture speaks directly to addiction, how to integrate psychology and theology, and how the recovery and healing journey can enhance our faith in Jesus.

Great pod for recovery

Everything happening on this pod is awesome.

One thing that has to be discussed and focus on is Nick’s point of view during the pods. What I mean is he often has amazing insights and a pastoral/authoritative tone, which serves the audience well. But he misses, almost every episode, the important moments he could use “I” and “me” language instead of “we” and “us”.

In recovery groups, especially in PD groups like I’ve been leading for >4yrs, that sort of posture/tone is generally suspicious.

Maybe it’s an auto-pilot thing or maybe it’s on purpose, but occasionally the asymmetry of the guests vulnerability to Nicks is significant.

Long time listener

In sickness and health was one of the open and frank discussions I’ve heard about those struggling in the bedroom with health related issues and provided practical applications ideas to help resolve them. Glad I listened to this one.
