If you were alive from 1945 - 1990, the Cold War was an ever-present reality. We grew up being told that the world could end any minute - and you probably wouldn't know it was coming until it hit. On this series we're going DEEP on the Cold War - why it happened, how it happened and where it left us. As with our other hit podcast series, this show contains heavy doses of bad language, irreverent humour and singalongs.

    “Empire By Invitation”

European recipients of the Marshall Plan funds were quite clear to the USA that they needed help keeping the socialists down and out of their countries. And the USA recognized that its own economic welfare rested on the revival of Europe. Funding a pro-capitalist European recovery was a matter of national self-interest.

The Double Life of Katharine Clark

The Double Life of Katharine Clark

Today we're talking to Katharine Gregorio, author of "The Double Life of Katharine Clark, The Untold Story of the American Journalist Who Brought the Truth about Communism to the West". Clark was her great-aunt, a foreign correspondent who, while posted in Belgrade in the mid-1950s, befriended Milovan Djilas, the former heir apparent to Tito in Yugoslavia and author of the classic "Conversations with Stalin", which Clark helped get published in the West, at great risk to herself and her husband.

Informative, Problematic and Fun

Historical details are handled seriously and critically, but presentation is done in a seemingly casual manner. As someone that doesn’t have a lot of time to read even more
history works, this is the perfect way of spending leisure time without feeling guilty.

Great show, could use more details

As a post Cold War baby, born in ‘92 in middle America, I grew up on a steady diet of spoon fed America good, Soviet bad information. It is refreshing to hear a clear, fact based, and only slightly inebriated (cool it on the limoncello Ray) take on the facts and actors involved in this pivotal time in history. Ray, as a fan of your WW2 podcast, it comes as a surprise to me that you have multiple tones of voice, and cam, I have to say you may be my favorite Aussie around, which means a lot considering the wealth of Australian rock stars out there. My only gripe is, you guys really seemed to rush through Yalta. I suppose you gave a pretty good outline of the events, but I came out of it with some questions. First off, how many bowel movements could be expected out of individuals per day, secondly, was Stalin out there giving out mustache rides when he got his way, and lastly, did old Winnie squeal like ray, when Frankie and Joey were giving it to him? This is the kind of hard hitting information I was hoping for. But on a real note, you guys are great, I’ve taken out about 80 episodes in the past month and can’t stop listening for the life of me! So Cam, keep up the great research, and ray, you make a great sidekick, and from what I’ve heard about Vegas, a great meatpuppet as well. Excellent work!
