Great
I’m listening to episode 5 now. I like how they insert the audio throughout the conversation to demonstrate what they are talking about. Very enjoyable - like the director’s cut of a movie.
Good job Marc Atkinson and Mike Genovese!
Sad
It’s sad to say, but the over riding theme in these episodes is nonsense fictional rewrites of actual history, using overly academic language and imaginary scenarios. I guess to come off as authoritative. But is wrong, there’s no excuse for it, it some kind of demented sycophantic attention seeking fan attempt to convince others that they’re on par with Frank, which sadly typical of the current social media fan base. I would not write this if I weren’t there in the room with Frank to know the truth. Why do ppl do this? It’s some weird crisis of identity. Even the intro used for these podcasts, they’re imitating Frank’s voice. Well, here’s a clue: when he was alive, Frank absolutely despised sychophantic ultra fans who emultated his style. He’d Puke if he heard this. Boo. Hiss. Crawl back into your hole and think real hard until you remember who YOU are. This is pathetic. And words don’t exist to express how I really feel.
Give us More!!!
My Zappa fandom is fairly recent, yet I have been able to garner much enjoyment from this highly in-depth podcast. I have never heard of two guys more knowledgeable on this subject. The anecdotes and stories they present allowed me to get so much more out of listening to FZs music. This show gives even the casual Zappa listener a look into the "conceptual continuity" of his work and thematic strands which run through all his music. A must listen for FZ fans young and old, serious and casual....5 STARS!!! I want more episodes, perhaps with interviews from band members and concert goers.
