Around 61 million adults in the US live with a disability. This is a population that largely goes unseen and not considered.

Social barriers affect some individuals from multiple points of identity; this is why intersectionality must remain at the core of our collective work towards change.

In this episode, Arianny shares some of her experience living with a disability in a world that is not designed with accessibility in mind.

Owning Your DACA Story: Meet Maribel

Owning Your DACA Story: Meet Maribel

One of CPL’s initiatives is our Sin Paredes’s Scholarship Fund, which was created specifically for DACA recipients and undocumented students. We believe that, to this day, these individuals have been underserved members of our community and continue to be faced with so much adversity.

In this episode, Maribel Serrano shares what it’s like growing up undocumented in the U.S. from the lens of a girl that was brought to this country at the age of 4, her motivation to advocate for the Latinx community, and provides insight into the advance parole process which is available to DACA recipients.

Maribel is a marketing professional, filmmaker, and real estate investor. She is the subject and producer of the feature documentary My DACA Life in partnership with Avenida Productions. A formerly undocumented Latina from Jalisco, Mexico, Maribel’s personal life experience led her to become a trailblazer in her community. She became an activist at the young age of 18, sharing her story through the halls of Congress in Washington D.C, and across local and international media platforms. Maribel is also a bold and dynamic leader who emphasizes representing the Latino community at a personal and professional level. During her time at the Los Angeles Latino Chamber of Commerce, Maribel collaborated alongside some of the most prominent Latino entrepreneurs while advocating for underserved businesses to obtain access to economic opportunities at a local, state and federal level.

Always something/someone to relate to

Every episode has given me something to relate to as a Mexican-American, but also a new perspective through the lens of the guests and host. More importantly, a constant reminder of things to be grateful for in my shared, yet very unique experience.
