Interview with Leah Slick-Driscoll.
Leah is a member of the Meskwaki Nation of Iowa (Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa) and is also Winnebago from Nebraska. She received her B.A.s in History and Social Studies Education from the University of Iowa in 2009. She received her M.A. in Social Studies Education from the University of Iowa in 2014. She is honored to teach 9-12th grade social studies at the Meskwaki Settlement School since 2009. She has 7 children and two grandchildren. She has a passion for Native American history and Indigenous Studies. She loves to research and get involved in issues that affect Native American people today, and to give her students opportunities to research and be a part in solving these issues. -

As a privileged white woman I hesitate, even fear, commenting on anything to do with race - because even with good intent I am so uneducated and inexperienced I will inevitably say something inappropriate. But instead of plowing forward in my ignorance, I want to learn. Thank you for putting this podcast together. It is accessible to those of us starting out in our education. I appreciate your efforts!
A Must Listen for All
Katie and Mandy do an amazing job of digging into history and revealing the truth about white women’s complicity in slavery and white supremacy. When you understand this foundation it allows you to understand why we are where we are today. This has become my go to podcast. I really appreciate the massive amount of research and work these to woman have done to help us all be better at being anti-racist.
White Men and Black Girls Too!
Honestly, this podcast should be heard by every adult. I love how deep into history Mandy and Katie have researched; drudging up everybody’s dirty laundry. Lol! Observing history and working through the thought processes on an individual and societal level that perpetuate the oppressive systems that have become our country’s legacy is fascinating. It’s not just purely entertaining as hashing through history and learning from it can begin to reform our way of thinking and hopefully, improve our behavior. I’m the “black girl too” in my title and firmly believe that this is a podcast where anyone will walk away gleaning something new. And even if you don’t agree with everything they’re saying, it will at least challenge you to spend time thinking about important topics such as racism, xenophobia, sexism, etc. I appreciate they’re bold, brave voices and I’m happy they’ve taken to the airwaves.
