A.G.A.W. (All Grandmas Are Witches): Movie Horoscopes July 26 - August 1, 2020

A.G.A.W. (All Grandmas Are Witches): Movie Horoscopes July 26 - August 1, 2020

This week, Cinemastrology hosts Kate Santos and Stevie Anderson discuss beauty, the truth, and getting inspired with an array of diverse transits that will be pulling our moods in various directions. The hosts discuss Venus in Gemini Square Pisces in Neptune transit happening on July 27th, which may have us questioning our own truths. There’s yet another squaring transit on July 27th with Mercury still in Cancer squaring up against Mars in Aries once again which can have us feeling energized and aware, and with the influence of the Leo sun, we will be ready to showcase our beauty pageantry style. Towards the end of the week, on July 30th, Mercury in Cancer will be opposing Jupiter in Capricorn. Mercury is our planet of communication and its opposition with Jupiter, the planet associated with the higher power and the larger forces at work in our lives, could help us lean into the weirdness of the world around us.
CherryPicks Choice, 2020’s The Truth (La Vérité) stars French acting legend Catherine Deneuve alongside Juliette Binoche as a mother and daughter. When Fabienne, an aging actress played by Deneuve, writes a book about her life, her daughter Lumir decides to confront her about each of the exaggerations or lies written in the memoir. Conversations provoked by Fabienne’s new film role transforms the planned confrontation into a reconnection. The Venus in Gemini Square Pisces in Neptune transit can make us notice our desires being muddle by fictional stories of our own creation. Pisces energy can be found throughout the film which features three generations of women and their mystical stories and shared artistic talents.
July 27th also has more squaring energy with Mercury in Cancer square Mars in Aries. A cult classic that features an all-star cast playing teenagers participating in a small-town beauty contest, Drop Dead Gorgeous is a legendary dark-comedy. The film boasts an all star class including Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Murphy, Ellen Barkin, Allison Janney, Kirstie Alley, and Amy Adams (to name a few) and is a classic when it comes to a full comedic female ensemble. Cancer can represent our homespace and Aries is the challenger. This transit may have us taking a closer look and having a laugh at the absurdity of where we grew up and the traditions that we keep.
On July 30th, another Mercury in Cancer transit –Cancer opposite Jupiter in Capricorn– may open up a portal for us to explore the depths of our creativity. Holy Motors (2012) directed by Leos Carax and starring Denis Lavant, Eva Mendes, and Kylie Monouge is a film that pushes the boundaries of reality. Lavant portrays 11 unique characters throughout the film as he journeys to reach underground worlds, and to reach the depths of what it means to be in one human body. This opposition is a great time to create a more inspired life– even if that means you need to lean into the unknown within yourself.

Leo Szn, Nightgowns, & Walter Mercado: Movie Horoscopes July 19 - 25, 2020

Leo Szn, Nightgowns, & Walter Mercado: Movie Horoscopes July 19 - 25, 2020

Famous television astrologer Walter Mercado would sign off his show each time with the same catchphrase: Sobre todo, mucho, mucho amor. The phrase translates to “Above all, lots and lots of love.” This week, Cinemastrology hosts Kate Santos and Stevie Anderson chat about various types of love, acceptance, and romance in their latest astrological forecast for the week of July 19th to July 25th. This week, we can expect to shift our focus on an uncomfortable but much-needed emotional evolution during the New Moon in Cancer on July 20th while a couple days later, on July 22nd, we’ll be moving into bright and shiny Leo Season. That same day, Mercury in Cancer Sextile Uranus in Taurus will super charge conversations to lean into the drama. Romance, unrequited love, with a little dose of drama—these transits along with these films will pep up your mood!
This week, we’re watching the 2000 Hong Kong romance-drama In The Mood For Love (starring Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung) while discussing July 20th’s New Moon In Cancer alongside the Sun opposing Saturn in Capricorn on that same day. While the New Moon In Cancer may bring about highly-sensitive feelings of care, an opposition to Saturn could be asking us to break the rules we’ve set for ourselves regarding our love lives. The film is a masterpiece in color and direction, and follows two neighbors as they explore romance in an unusual situation. Love can make us go over the top. It can also force us to go to great lengths to gain acceptance from your future daughter-in-law’s family– or at least that’s what it does to Armand (Robin Williams) and Albert (Nathan Lane), the two lovers in 1996’s The Birdcage. This comedy follows this gay couple on a hilarious quest to win over the hearts of their very different soon-to-be in-laws. Adapted from the French play ‎La Cage aux Folles‎, the film is a fabulous farce with an A-list cast including Christine Baranski, Callista Flockheart, and Gene Hackman. In tangent with Mercury in Cancer Sextile Uranus in Taurus, this energy can influence us to have unusual and unconventional means of expressing oneself, especially in regard to family and relationships. This movie and transit are what we call a classic romp! We are officially in Leo Season on July 22 and the qualities of Leo ask us to be our brightest and most brilliant selves. In order to live out your best Leo Season, the hosts encourage you to take notes from the fabulous Puerto Rican television astrologer Walter Mercado. The new Netflix documentary, and previous CherryPicks Choice, Mucho Mucho Amor (2020) is a beautiful glimpse into the life of Walter Mercado, who magically pushed through the boundaries his entire life. His presence on television as a Latino, genderfluid mystic was groundbreaking and this documentary brings a legend back to life, in pure Leo opulence.

Astro Girl Gang: Movie Horoscopes July 12 - July 18, 2020

Astro Girl Gang: Movie Horoscopes July 12 - July 18, 2020

We’re celebrating because Mercury Retrograde is FINALLY over! In the eternal words of Shania Twain, “looks like we made it, look how far we’ve come my baby!”. Cinemastrology hosts Stevie Anderson and Kate Santos forecasts your movie horoscopes for the week of July 12th to July 18th. They discuss the emotional effects of the infamous Mercury Retrograde transit, and how the shadow period could still have us in our Retrograde feelings. Also this week, Sun in Cancer transits are the primary force guiding our movements. On July 12th, the Sun will trine Neptune, and we’ll have the chance to feed our creative selves some much-needed attention. Later in the week, the Sun will be in opposition to Jupiter and a day later, the Sun will be in opposition to Pluto. Emotionally, these two opposition transits could feel like the ups and downs of a rollercoaster.
We’ve come so far during this emotionally heavy Mercury Retrograde period. With Mercury stationing direct in Cancer on July 12th, the hosts celebrate female friendships and finding your groove once again with the 2014 French film Girlhood (Bande de filles). The film, directed by Céline Sciamma (Portrait Of A Lady On Fire), follows one girl’s journey –Marieme played by Karidja Touré– to adapt and learn from a group of fun-loving girls with big personalities. Complete with sweeping cinematography and based on the parts of Paris we rarely see on film, the film challenges us to be more like Marieme and open ourselves up to new experiences. On July 12th, the Sun in Cancer is trine Neptune in Pisces and the hosts discuss living in the moment and finding beauty in the mundane with past CherryPicks Choice, Babyteeth (2020). The film is an impressive directorial debut from Shannon Murphy and stars Eliza Scanlen (Little Women, Sharp Objects) as Milla, a 16-year-old girl who is in the final phase of her young life.  This transit asks us to be radically empathetic and to feed our artistic souls by any means necessary. It may not always be the right decision, but sometimes it’s the right decision for right now. Babyteeth is a creative, poetic exploration of living in the now. A few days later, on July 14th, the Sun in Cancer is opposite Jupiter in Capricorn which could make us feel like we’re going with no end in sight. The following day, the Sun in Cancer is in opposition to Pluto in Capricorn which can feel like the rug is pulled from under you. One minute you’re up, the next minute you’re down. The hosts discuss the two oppositional transits alongside the 2019 film Uncut Gems, directed by the Safdie Brothers. The film follows gambling addict Howard Ratner, played by Adam Sandler, as he gets deeper and deeper into losing money. Jupiter wants it all, while Pluto reminds us that it can all be gone in an instant. The chaotic cinematography and score can feel like the electric transits we’re experiencing back to back. The hosts also discuss the off-the-street casting for the film led by Jennifer Venditti. Both the movie and these transits will take us on a ride– from cloud nine to a crash headfirst into reality.

Charlize Chiron: Movie Horoscopes July 5 - July 11, 2020

Charlize Chiron: Movie Horoscopes July 5 - July 11, 2020

It’s definitely an unusual start to the summer for everyone, but the stars above (and Cinemastrology hosts Stevie Anderson and Kate Santos) are here to navigate the week of July 5th to July 11th, 2020. Cinemastrology is here to help you make the best decisions for yourself… and that includes introducing new titles to your movie queue! Crank up the A/C and put popcorn on the stove, we’re staying home and watching films that can guide us through this week’s astral transits and planetary retrogrades. Earlier in the week Mercury squares off with Mars, and the hosts discuss how to harness that fired-up communication energy by openly voicing our opinions on society. They also discuss two asteroids –Ceres and Chiron– both of which will have us reflecting and questioning our innermost feelings and motives.

At the beginning of the week on July 7th, Ceres Retrograde in Pisces may have us retreating into the wild as a way for us to go deeper into ourselves. This asteroid’s retrograde period is a fertile time to reflect on our past experiences with grief and our connection to the Earth. There’s no better film to watch than 2014’s Wild starring Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern, based on the bestselling memoir by Cheryl Strayed. The film follows one woman’s spiritual and physical journey backpacking on the Pacific Crest Trail. This transit and film asks us to explore what does our path look like when we burn it down and start all over again. Mercury Retrograde in Cancer is still fueling nostalgic feelings with family, friends, and the home space—but on July 8th, Mercury in Cancer Squares Mars in Aries and will have us expertly communicating our criticisms about society as a whole. Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen (2020) is a new documentary and previous CherryPicks Choice that brilliantly shows the audience a retrospective of portrayals of transgender characters on-screen. Directed by Sam Feder and Executive Produced by Laverne Cox, the film features interviews with Alexandra Billings, Lilly Wachowski, to name a few. The documentary is a much-needed conversation starter about how generations of films and TV shows did a disservice to the trans community by perpetuating negative stereotypes of trans lives. This transit only confirms what we as a society should be saying and doing: call it out and commit to doing better! Towards the end of the week, Chiron’s perceived backwards movement in Aries arises as a grand opportunity for self-responsibility. 2011’s Young Adult stars Charlize Theron as a character who could really use this Chiron reflection-gazing. Written by Diablo Cody, the film features one of cinema’s stand-out anti-heroes, a woman who can’t escape her selfish tendencies and is trapped in an adolescent haze. Aries is the baby of the zodiac and this Chiron Rx period is asking us all to grow up.

    It's The Capricorn Show!!!: Movie Horoscopes June 28 - July 4, 2020

    It's The Capricorn Show!!!: Movie Horoscopes June 28 - July 4, 2020

If you are not familiar with Capricorn energy, BUCKLE UP. This week’s astrology transits are sea goat-centric and will be demanding us to take a look around and really ask ourselves what exactly are we doing? Your hosts Stevie Anderson and Kate Santos forecast your movie horoscopes for the week of June 28-July 4, 2020.
June 30th is the second time this year Jupiter (Rx) and Pluto (also Rx) will be conjunct in the sign of Capricorn. Capricorn is rooted in reputation and the messages we put out to society, and this transit is perfectly encapsulated in the dark-comedy Ingrid Goes West (2017). The film follows a mentally unstable woman named Ingrid (Aubrey Plaza) who comes into some cash after the death of her mother which fuels her fantasy of taking her online obsession with Instagram influencer Taylor (Elizabeth Olsen) from the screen to reality. The film investigates and dismantles the idea of performing one’s life for an audience. The Cap-chat continues! Saturn Retrograde reenters Capricorn and the ringed-planet has some unfinished business to take care of. Your hosts discuss the meaning behind Saturn Returns as well as one of the most quarter-life crisis movies of all time Reality Bites (1994). Capricorn culture prompts us to all think about the ways productivity, capitalism, and industrialism have been conditioned to be at the forefront of our young lives. Last and certainly not least is the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in (you guessed it) Capricorn on July 4th. If you weren’t already questioning the meaning of life, this transit is sure to assist! We watched CherryPicks Choice Shirley (2020) directed by Josephine Decker and screenplay by Sarah Gubbins. The film is a biographical drama centered around real life horror writer Shirley Jackson, beautifully portrayed by Elisabeth Moss. In the film, Shirley leans into her self proclaimed witchy rituals as scenes of tarot, fortune telling, and the full moon give nod to the mysteries of our world that sometimes you must experience rather than rush to explain. Full moons are all about releasing and eclipses help accelerate that process. Shirley pushes the boundary on what kind of film you may expect it to be. It questions the foundation of societal norms and is a unique exploration of the artist’s process. This film and the corresponding transit are really asking ourselves to just let it be.

    Spicy Pisces: Movie Horoscopes June 21 - 27, 2020

    Spicy Pisces: Movie Horoscopes June 21 - 27, 2020

Da 5th episode! It’s the week of June 21-27, 2020 and hosts Stevie Anderson and Kate Santos unpack all the astro shifts we will be experiencing including: the Solar Eclipse in Cancer, the end of Venus Retrograde, and Mars moving into Aries.
We start off the week with the powerful New Moon Solar Eclipse at ZERO degrees Cancer on June 21st. What a way to kick off Cancer season! Eclipses are always full of surprises and astrologically they can move us via unexpected twists and turns. Cancer energy is focused on our surroundings both physically and emotionally. Crabs like to feel comfortable wherever they are. The hosts chat about the psychological yet hilarious thriller, What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? (1962). The film is centered around a twisted sibling relationship, starring famed rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Through their bizarre home space we see what can happen when we descend into madness. This eclipse will have us all reconsidering all the company we keep. After 40 days, Venus stations direct on June 25th. The Retrograde is over! Gemini Venus is asking us to say what is on our mind and to not be shy about what we want, like the characters in Tangerine (2015). This film is a comedy-drama (hello, Gemini vibes) and was shot completely on iPhones (Gemini inventiveness at work!) and follows two BFF transgender sex workers on a frenzied romp around Hollywood. Mars, our planet of action and self, is entering Aries, the sign it rules over. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and expresses the Martian themes of fighting for oneself and channeling the warrior within. Previous CherryPick’s Choice Da 5 Bloods (2020) directed by Spike Lee, is a war film that goes beyond the call of duty.  In pure Aries fashion, this film doesn’t hold back. The film effectively expresses Aries Mars energy by putting it all out there, whether it makes you comfortable or not—it’s all about the authenticity.
