LISK: Long Island Serial Killer

The LISK (Long Island Serial Killer) investigation began in May 2010 with the disappearance of sex worker Shannan Gilbert. In the following months, Suffolk County Police uncovered human remains from nine more murders, including those of the "Gilgo 4", all sex workers whose bodies were disposed of similarly. After years of virtually no new developments, Suffolk County Police arrested Rex Heuermann in connection with the murder of at least 3 victims. DNA evidence, cellphone records and witness accounts of a Chevrolet Avalanche truck all led to police zeroing in on Heuermann. As prosecutors prepare for the upcoming trial, details and accounts of Heuermann's life and behavior continue to be uncovered. Inspired by the New York Times best-selling book "Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery", follow the series as it’s told through previously unheard interviews with family members, friends, police officers, government officials and others whose lives were touched by the gruesome murders. Humanizes the victims and isn’t exploitative
06/30/2024
I like the investigative aspects of true crime, and the human story behind the victims and the perpetrators. I hate sensationalist exploitation and this podcast is not that. It’s a fascinating in depth study of the case from ever angle, from corrupt police to victims of the poverty of our society.
Season one is really good. Then it drops off hard.

I watched episode one of the Netflix special. Decided to dive into this podcast and the first season was really good. Really did a deep dive on all of the victims, far more than the Netflix documentary. Then all of a sudden, the podcast starts fast, forwarding, using names of suspects that have not been discussed, I still haven’t heard and can’t figure out which episode talks about the arrest of the suspect Rex, it just really goes off the rails, super repetitive, lots of recaps, host is talking to you Like the word DNA is a new thing. It was disappointing.
Recaps
09/14/2024
Way too many recaps and repetitive content. If you’re listening to the podcast you don’t need to have constant recaps and literally the same auto repeating.
Women are NOT girls
08/28/2024
Although there is a lot of coverage of the human beings who were victims in this horrific story, many people, including the host, in this podcasts call the women victims “girls”. Stop calling women girls! It’s demeaning and patronizing to women. However, this does seem to slightly improve as the seasons progress. The first two seasons have a ton of repetition and the chronology is all mixed up.
