Jim Harshaw has learned many life lessons on the wrestling mat. Having won three ACC Championships for the University of Virginia, trained at the Olympic Training Center and competed overseas for Team USA he has experienced significant triumph and devastating defeat. He shares those powerful lessons of failure, struggle and setback to empower his audiences to overcome their own challenges and achieve success despite their inevitable failures.

At the Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF), Jim works with donors to connect them to the University of Virginia in ways that are meaningful to them. Jim's is responsible for raising millions of dollars to fund scholarships, capital projects and endowments for consistently one of the top Division I college athletics programs in the nation.

Jim has consulted with businesses, non-profits and athletic programs nationwide in regards to marketing, fundraising, lead generation, communications, and brand building. He has presented at over a dozen state and national conventions on the topics of fundraising, donor relations and marketing.

Jim's entrepreneurial experience is broad from having raised angel capital to develop a web based software to founding a Charlottesville-based service business that he sold that is still in operation.

Mark Cuban made an offer and invested $150,000 for a 30% stake in Aarstol’s company. In 2013 and 2018, Aarstol was featured as one of Shark Tank’s biggest winners by People Magazine. In addition to selling beach products, such as sunglasses, snorkels and surfboards, Aarstol is also the Editor-in-Chief of Tower Life Magazine, a biweekly publication that discusses beach lifestyle.

His company was ranked San Diego’s number one fastest growing private company in 2014. Jeff Bezos’ 2015 annual letter to stockholders singles out Aarstol and his company. Aarstol was featured on ABC’s Beyond the Tank in January 2016.

In November 2016, Harvard Business School professor Thales S. Teixeira published a case study on Aarstol and Tower Paddle Boards titled “Selling on Amazon at Tower Paddle Boards”. Aarstol has given several talks at Harvard Business School on the topics of e-commerce and Amazon's role since its publication.
