He argues that taking the Bible literally is beneficial because it provokes a response in the reader. Martin provides examples of biblical stories that walk readers through the emotions of forgiving an enemy, repenting a sin, and sacrificing an idol such as food, pornography, or money. He begins each chapter with a story from the Bible and adds details to paint a fuller picture.
