Publisher Description
Jack Ryan, Jr.’s race to stop an international criminal conspiracy is intertwined with the fate of an old friend in this blistering entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.
The CIA's deepest secrets are being given away for a larger agenda that will undermine the entire Western intelligence community. Director of National Intelligence Mary Pat Foley wants it stopped but doesn't know who, how or why.
Jack Ryan, Jr., is dispatched to Poland on a different mission. The clues are thin, and the sketchy trail dead ends in a harrowing fight from which he barely escapes with his life.
If that's not bad enough, Jack gets more tragic news. An old friend, who's dying from cancer, has one final request for Jack. It seems simple enough, but before it's done, Jack will find himself alone, his life hanging by a thread. If he survives, he'll be one step closer to finding the shadowy figure behind the CIA leak and its true purpose, but in the process, he'll challenge the world's most dangerous criminal syndicate with devastating consequences.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In bestseller Maden's competent but ponderous third Jack Ryan Jr. novel in the Clancy franchise (after 2018's Line of Sight), a hacker known as CHIBI, a name that references an 1,800-year-old Chinese battle, is offering actionable intelligence for free to Iran, China, Russia, and a secret agency called the Iron Syndicate as proof that he has the key to all Western intelligence, now stored in the Intelligence Community Cloud. After the value of the material is proven, CHIBI invites the three countries and the syndicate to bid on the master key. Meanwhile, Jack looks into the possibility that a U.S. senator is working with the Chinese. The case takes Jack to Poland, where he teams with Liliana Pilecki, a member of that country's equivalent of the FBI. As usual, Jack's professional partner becomes his love interest. During their travels around the countryside, Jack and Liliana sample Polish delicacies over Liliana's mini lectures on Polish history. Eventually, Jack's investigation connects with CHIBI, whose identity comes as a shock. Along the way, bad things happen to good people. For less formulaic continuations of the Clancy series, readers should check out the respective works of Mark Greaney and Marc Cameron.

Fun read
Crazy ending!
Ugh
I am a huge fan of Clancy and have enjoyed the books, but lately, the series is getting ridiculous. This book was pretty slow, lacked a lot of excitement, and was basically a generic book written by the author with Clancy characters forced into it. The days of great plot weaving are gone.
Unbelievable
Written for people a lot younger than me.
