Publisher Description
Master entrepreneur, original hip-hop mogul, and three-time New York Times bestselling author Russell Simmons offers an inspiring guide to the benefits of conscious eating and veganism
In the New York Times bestseller Success Through Stillness, Russell Simmons shared how meditation can be used as a powerful tool to access potential in all aspects of life, having seen himself how achieving inner peace led to outward success.
In The Happy Vegan, Simmons shares how once he started practicing yoga and meditation, he became more conscious of his choices, particularly the choices he made regarding his diet. Simmons first adopted a vegetarian and then vegan diet, and almost immediately began to experience the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of eating green and clean. He delves into research about mindful eating, the links between stress and poor eating habits, the importance of listening to your body, the well-documented problems associated with eating animal products and processed foods, along with tips on how to transition to a vegan diet.
Drawing on his own experience, the experiences of others, and science and research on the health benefits of conscious eating and veganism, The Happy Vegan is an accessible and inspiring guide to help others make the move toward a vegan diet and a more successful, focused, and purposeful life.
Customer Reviews
I love Russ and this book!
This book took me a while to finish because I had to keep putting it down as I was reading about the cruelty and the insane statistics of what this animal epidemic is doing to our world and our people. We are blind and I was a part of the blind as well.
I decided to become vegan before I started reading this book. But, I love Russell and wanted to see what he was writing about. This book has really helped to solidify my quest to being a happy vegan.
Thanks for writing this and thanks for all of the resources and the encouragement. I didn't even expect the section on meditation, but I'm so glad it was there because I have always wanted to try it again, but which form of meditation was a sticking point for me. This book made it all very simple and I am looking forward to getting started and staying with the journey.
God bless you, Brother Simmons.

Overrated!
This book is by far one of the most overrated books I’ve read. I was expecting something more from all the great reviews. This book did not tell me anything I haven’t read before. Matter of fact, I felt like this book was not at all original. Being a big fan of Russell I expected something more.
Misleading title
This book is not about living a happy vegan life. Instead is about the horrible conditions the animals go through. Which would be evidence to convince someone to be vegan. I understand that he feel the need to let people know about the conditions. I was already aware of the conditions. I got the book to learn how to be vegan and steps to incorporate it into my daily life. I feel that he missed his opportunity to do so. Anyone looking to be a vegan does not need the reasons it’s evident that they already know and is ready to take the next step.
