Publisher Description

The International Sensation

It begins in a Stockholm city park where the abused body of a young boy is discovered. Detective Superintendent Jeanette Kihlberg heads the investigation, battling an apathetic prosecutor and a bureaucratic police force unwilling to devote resources to solving the murder of an immigrant child. But with the discovery of the mutilated corpses of two more children, it becomes clear that a serial killer is at large.

Superintendent Kihlberg turns to therapist Sofia Zetterlund for her expertise in the psychopathology of those who kill, and the lives of the two women become quickly intertwined—professionally and personally. As they draw closer to each other and to the truth about the killings, what surfaces is the undeniable fact that these murders are only the most obvious evidence of an insidious evil woven deep into Swedish society.

Hard work

I actually read the 1999 pages. I also think the neighborhood drunk will get sober and the American political race is simply a bad dream. This book is confusing. The authors seem to have taken every idea for a crime book and tried to merge them into package that never gets tied into good result. The unbelievable never becomes believable. Novels may not make sense to me, but worthwhile ones need make sense within themselves. To many "what the...." moments.

Avoid reading this book at all costs.

The storyline seemed to be interesting, but then it lapsed into mind numbing, garish repetitiveness. A good editor would have removed at least a third of the book. The detective is dumb. The continual references to abuse are not necessary to propel the plot. This had significant potential but unfortunately there were simply too many pages of meaningless dialogue and descriptions.
Avoid. I still adore reading Scandinavian fiction but I will not be searching for anything else composed by these authors. On one positive note, perhaps others have enjoyed this book.
