Star Wars: A Tale of Horror
A quick easy read that is very enjoyable. While reading, I was nostalgic about the classic movie monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein. The way they made the castle, it seemed like it was part of Transylvania.
But the highlight of the story came in the end, where the main character realizes her reality has become her worst nightmare.
Decent. But not great.
This book, as the title states, was decent. But not great. It didn't really add anything to the SW universe, or even reveal any new information that readers would want to know.
It's not a bad story, but it's fairly predictable. It's not the worst $3 I've ever spent. But it's also not the best.
A Tale of True Terror
While not the strongest of the quadrilogy of stories penned by Landry leading to The Force Awakens, The Face of Evil stands as a cautionary tale sprinkled with bits of horror and, at its climax, terror.
We've seen this story before -- from Mary Shelley to Ridley Scott -- but Landry's commentary is as well played as any I've read or seen. The true terror isn't in the events that transpire, but in the climactic realization that sometimes life is more unbearable than death.
