Some info may not be accurate anymore
It would be great if we can get an updated version of this book (since it is such a wonderful resource). For example, .ibooks and .epub files exported from iBA will now work in iBooks for iPhone, iPad, and OSX. The book says that it will only work on iPad, which is not the case anymore.
Great Introduction
If you are looking to get the basics of what you can and can't do with iBook Author, what to expect in dealing with Apple and what it takes to get your eBook in the iBook store this is the book for you.
Does a good job of covering the program
I found it clearly written, as I've expected from O'Reilly Press. You can learn most of what you need from this book. The only drawback is that it is similar to other Computer books that walks you through the different capabilities of the Program without addressing what different users will need.
iBooks Author is a tremendously capable program full of features many, if not most authors will never use. I would have preferred it if it were organized by the type of book you wanted to publish, from a simple novel with a cover picture and perhaps small graphics at the beginning of each chapter, to textbooks, to wide open multimedia works or business documents.
As it is, you can read through the whole thing and not really be sure how to start or what should govern the choices you make. E-books are a wonderful invention, but there are reasons e-book readers emulate paper books. For centuries a great deal of care has gone into their design. For most books, there isn't any reason to reinvent the wheel. Simple layouts let the reader focus on the content. Too much emphasis is made of all the amazing things you can do without any on how to do just enough.
