Improbable premise but a good story nonetheless
I'll start by saying the precipitating event that gets the story started is ridiculous. A brand new hire at a major NYC newspaper writes a scathing idiotic opinion piece (and seriously, what 22 year old new grad gets to do that any way?!) that a) is based on unsubstantiated hearsay and b) intentionally misrepresents something and biggest of all c) disregards the confidentiality of an "off the record" agreement and d) rips apart a major NY professional athlete who comes to a meeting at the paper with a lawsuit in hand. There is no way, NO WAY that person doesn't get fired.
After scoffing at the premise and then engaging in the willing suspension of disbelief, I have to say, as is usually the case with Ms. Bennett's books, I fell into the story and again came to care about the characters. Not one of my favorites of hers but I still recommend it and am ready to start the 4th book in the series.
