STORY-LINE MAYBE BABY BY E. E. BURKE:

In Maybe Baby, Jen Chandler, wants a baby without the usual trappings of marriage and a husband. Her biological clock is in express mode and she plans to find a sperm donor. When handsome hunky cowboy, Logan Hardt, arrives next door for his friend's wedding, he finds Jen in a yoga position with her behind in the air. He offer to trim Jen's overgrown bushes for the up coming wedding. Suddenly, she sees the answer to her prayers standing in front of her; intelligent, handsome, kind, and best of all leaving town in a week. All she has to do is convince him to donate his sperm and make sure he leaves town.

Can Jen and Logan remain unemotional as they try to create a baby? Will either of them be able to turn their back on the other?

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Maybe Baby by E. E. Burke, book 1 of the Hardts of Texas is mildly spicy and fast paced. We find Jen has a boat load of issues she must face. Raised by parents who did not show love, having faced a high school dating crisis alone and afraid, as well as, having fears of heights and large groups, Jen's learned to cope in her own way. However, Logan will show her that life can be fulfilling and secure if she's willing to believe in and trust him.

Watching these two come to terms with life, love, security, and resolving old issues, the reader becomes enmeshed in the story. I found myself rooting for Logan. Talk about a gentleman, Logan has "knight in shining armor" written all over him. I loved watching Burke develop Jen's character to the fullest. Burke included humor in Maybe Baby. The quips between Jen and Logan are hilarious, then add in his brothers, and I laughed out loud. Family dynamics play a large part in this story and leave options for future books in this series.

I found the plotting held my attention and the pace smooth and steady. However, if you do not care for slightly more than mild love scenes, this book may not be for you. Although not a squeaky clean book, I found the love scenes skillfully written without the use of vulgarity or graphic language.

MAYBE BABY RECOMMENDATION: STARS 4:

Due to love scenes, I recommend this book for young adults and adults. Published earlier, this is an expanded book with much extended story-line; including additional characters, Jen's trips to Texas, and a new wonderful cover. Much more contents available in this expanded version.

A sexy unexpected backyard visitor strolls into Jen Chandler's staid and lonely life and immediately she hatches a plan to get sexy cowboy Logan Hardt to agree to become a sperm donor for the child she desperately wants. I have to admit to being frustrated with this particular heroine throughout much of this novella because she tries so hard to protect her heart by thinking of the process as a business transaction and I wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake some sense into her! Logan has issues of his own but while he's observant and senses there's more to her than meets the eye, Jen is a really tough nut to crack. I really wish Maybe Baby had been a full length novel because this is an appealing storyline and I wanted to get to know both characters even better, but there's no doubt that this couple, and their insecurities, will touch your heart and have you rooting for a happy ending for them both.
