Publisher Description

Karen Marie Moning raves that Stacia Kane “delivers dark, sexy urban fantasy at its finest.” Now Kane introduces her most addictive antihero yet: a Las Vegas PI who makes his own luck—and embodies everything that’s oh-so-right with Sin City.

A lot of bad hands get dealt in Vegas, but E. L. Speare may be holding one of the worst: He’s cursed with the need to commit sins, and if he misses his daily quota, there’s hell to pay—literally. Fortunately, his hometown affords him plenty of chances to behave badly.

But Speare’s newest case really has him going out on a limb. The right-hand man of a notorious crime boss has been found dead in a Dumpster—minus his right hand, not to mention the rest of his arm. What catches Speare’s attention, however, is that the missing appendage was severed clean by a demon-sword, a frighteningly powerful tool of the underworld.

Speare’s out of his element, so he turns to a specialist: Ardeth Coyle, master thief, dealer in occult artifacts, and bona fide temptress. Ardeth’s hotter than a Las Vegas sidewalk on the Fourth of July, but she’s one sin Speare has to resist.

The dismembered corpses are piling up, unimaginable evil lurks in the shadows, and if this odd couple hopes to beat the odds, Speare needs to keep his hands off Ardeth, and his head in the game.

Good Escape Read

To some degree this is a tough book for me to review. I did not find anything new or surprising in the book. It was pretty predictable, but honestly the vast majority of books I read are. I don't require every book I read to have a completely new and exciting slant on a genre that has been over represented in the past decade or two.

Also, this is a pretty short book and a quick read. If the storyline would have been bigger and more expansive this book may have resonated with readers more. The book didn't seem condensed exactly, but I think it might have had a greater impact if there would have been a little bit more background on the characters and their situations.

I like Stacia Kane's books and that is why I think I enjoyed this book. As a stand alone this book is pretty much just ok.

So in closing, if we consider this book just the first part of a greater story I think this book works nicely. We are introduced to a group of interesting players, each with their own demons and agendas. Do we know everything about these characters. No. Not even close. In future books will these characters expose their truths to us and grow along the way? I'm pretty sure they will.

So I guess I'm reviewing this book as a single component in a body of work that has not yet been produced (and may never be) based on my liking Kane's other works. Which is weird when I think about it but it's my review and no one can stop me.

I received this ARC for an honest review.

Tome Tender ,

intriguing start to a new series

Made for Sin is an intriguing start to a new series Stacia Kane Series with a highly original premise. Speare, the main male characters, must commit sin every day or he will pay for it. Living in Vegas definitely helps Speare meet his quota.

Speare finds himself caught up in an investigation that involves a crime boss, demon blade and an accomplished but sexy thief, Ardeth.

Corpses begin to pile up and together Ardeth and Speare must unravel the mystery behind the mutilations before it might be Speare’s head on the block next.

I was intrigued but never really connected with the story. The premise, the world building was there but I wasn’t a big fan of Speare which made this a 3.5 stars read for me.

I received this ARC copy of Made for Sin from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept in exchange for a honest review.
