In this fast-paced thriller, Dylan (Deadly Proof) explores corruption through a story that blends white-collar crime with street violence. Prosecutor Sophie Dawson has just been promoted to the white-collar crime division and is working on a fraud case involving a top bank manager of Atlanta bank SIB, Glen Shelton. Although the case seems cut and dried, Sophie starts suspecting that SIB may have been involved in more than fraud. When her digging reveals a pattern of money laundering overseen by the bank, Sophie worries that she is involved too deeply in a case that important people in Atlanta politics don't want investigated. Then, after work one night, Sophie is the only witness to two murders committed by the brother of a local gang leader. After receiving threatening letters, Sophie hires bodyguard Cooper Knight to protect her from the gang during the homicide case. As Cooper fights to keep Sophie alive through shootings and physical attacks, the two get closer. Although faith elements rarely appear, they do inform the slow-burning romance in the backdrop of the action-packed trial. Despite the disjointed plot, multiple story lines, and numerous side characters, Dylan demonstrates her skill by keeping the story moving and tying everything together nicely in the end.

“Lone Witness” is Rachel Dylan’s second installment of her “Atlanta Justice” series. The heroine, Sophie Dawson, is an Assistant DA in Fulton County, Georgia. She has just been promoted to the White Collar Crime unit, and is starting her first case with them. But she can’t get away from the General Trial Division. She ends up back in court, in the middle of a murder trial. But this time, Sophie is not the prosecutor - but rather the lone witness to the savage and heartbreaking murder of two innocent people in a convenience store robbery. She soon also finds that she is in danger of becoming a murder victim herself, with several close calls. Is it because of the vengeful spirit of the heartless gang laeder whose brother is the defendant in the trial? Is this an attempt to silence her testimony? Dylan does a great job of building suspsnse in this book; at times, I could barely wait to turn the page, to see what happened. Based on my experience as a Victim Advocate in another metro Atlanta District Attorney’s office, I found Dylan's characters and events to be true-to-life. I didn’t like all the courtroom results, but that just makes the book all the more realistic and readable, because I certainly didn’t like all the results when I was working for a DA office, myself. Dylan is a gifted writer. I am now going to go back and read the first in this series, as well as trying some of her other books. I hope these are many more books to come, in the Atlatna series.

LONE. WITNESS by Rachel Dylan.
Sophie a prosecutor , loving her job, even though it usually ended up late at night. Stopping at a convince store, she ends up being a witness to a double homicide, and gang related. Special prosecutor Patrick has been assigned to the case. Her father hires a bodyguard, which didn’t please her, and now getting threathing letters. Everything escalated with the trial, as does the readers, the tense plot, and will there be a guilty verdict, and is Sophie kept safe. A story that grabs you, the plot flows, and questions need answers, very well written.
