Why won’t God reveal his special will for my life already?

Because he doesn’t intend to... So says Kevin DeYoung in this punchy book about making decisions the godly way.

Many of us are listening for the still small voice to tell us what’s next instead of listening to the clear voice in Scripture telling us what’s now. God does have a will for your life, but it is the same as everyone else’s: Seek first the kingdom of God. And quit floundering.

With pastoral wisdom and tasteful wit, DeYoung debunks unbiblical ways of understanding God’s will and constructs a simple but biblical alternative: live like Christ. He exposes the frustrations of our waiting games and unfolds the freedom of finding God’s will in Scripture and then simply doing it.

This book is a call to put down our Magic 8-Balls and pick up God’s Word. It’s a call to get wisdom, follow Christ, be holy, and live freely. To just do something.

kDirty33 ,

I love this book

This book is biblical, straight forward, and very helpful. I was always caught up in my mind trying to make sure I make every right decision about jobs, college, marriage, even where I would eat, etc. It was controlling my life. My intentions were “Glorify God in all things.” But I was waiting for God to lead me with his spirit in all these things, so I thought I would feel his spirit and if I didn’t “hear him”, “feel him”, or “have peace” about a decision I just wasn’t doing it.
This book helped me to see that the most important thing is to follow Christ. It was so liberating to know that if I quit my job bc all the stuff going on there and started a business (assuming basic biblical wisdom in those decisions), I wasn’t outside of God’s will!! There’s nothing sinful about quitting the job. There’s nothing sinful about starting a business to provide for my family. So I did it, while trusting God. I didn’t assume it would be successful just of that, I just did it. I also shut down a failing business bc of this book as well. It was a business I thought “God had led me to start”, so I was holding on for dear life waiting for God to come thru. When really, it was time to let go and provide for my family (which is actually what God called me to do clearly in his word!).
I’m so thankful for this book. It has been a diving board for me into biblical wisdom and freedom in decision making. I’m no longer waiting on chill bumps or a certain song to come on the radio. I just follow Christ and I do what I think would glorify him according to his word. Sometimes there’s 2 right choices and I now feel freedom in Christ to choose whichever one I feel is right and I trust in his sovereignty over all things, and the whole time I remain in his will!

Practical. Biblical. Straightforward. So helpful!

The will of God is something that always sounds beautiful, but a bit like grapsping for the wind, Not tangable or concerte. This book was so insigntful of some of the unessassry headache us belivers put into making decisions. Overspiritualizing options that can both glorify God. As normal its ALWAYS a heart issue. Hearing the differences and explainations to Gods will of desire, decree, and sovereign plan was so clarifying and helpful. I think I screenhoted about every page. Thank you Kevin and Joshua for putting this book together.
God bless.

A sister in Christ,

Holly Anne. :)
