Publisher Description
In this powerful book, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Reclaiming Virtue shows how we can learn to nurture our inner child and offer ourselves the good parenting we needed and longed for.
Are you outwardly successful but inwardly feel like a big kid? Do you aspire to be a loving parent but too often “lose it” in hurtful ways? Do you crave intimacy but sometimes wonder if it’s worth the struggle? Are you plagued by constant, vague feelings of anxiety or depression?
If any of this sounds familiar, you may be experiencing the hidden but damaging effects of a painful childhood—carrying within you a “wounded inner child” who is crying out for attention and healing.
John Bradshaw’s step-by-step process of exploring the unfinished business of each developmental stage helps us break away from destructive family rules and roles, freeing ourselves to live responsibly in the present. Then, says Bradshaw, the healed inner child becomes a source of vitality, inviting us to find new joy and energy in living.
Homecoming includes a wealth of unique case histories and interactive techniques, including questionnaires, guided meditations, affirmations, and letter-writing to the inner child. These classic therapies, which were pioneering when introduced, continue to be validated by new discoveries in attachment research and neuroscience. No one has ever brought them to a popular audience more effectively and inspiringly than John Bradshaw.

I can't explain, I'm still in disbelief
Shortly into the book i had to stop & get a hold of myself. Finally my feelings, my thoughts, my life that even at 36 years old i couldn't explain the craziness inside me to no one not even to myself. i had no words for the HOLE IN MY SOUL! This book has saved my life. I immediately went out & bought 2 more of his. I can't wait to go out & buy the 2 other books I'm missing! My higher power has lead me where I needed to be, it just took me awhile to see the signs.
Healing
Found this book so sparking for my inner child work! Highly recommend.
An Absolute Winner!!!
From the referral of a colleague/friend, I began to read this book early on in my journey, but I couldn’t finish it and received intense therapy! That was over 20 years ago! So much has transpired, both good and not so good, but I’ve survived and discovered my identity! Now, I’m ready to take this next step to continue to heal my wounded inner child! I am so glad that I picked up this book, again, because I left off around the toddler stage! This was a pivotal moment in my life, and through the text, I’m now able to dive deep to reclaim and heal those areas that were interrupted and arrested during my early development and have manifested unwanted behaviors in my adulthood! The anxiety is real, but now that I’ve gleaned insight into what was going on, and caused the anxiety, I’m able to nurture my areas and learn to trust again. Also, I had no idea of how my family and children could be impacted, and now that I’m married with children (which I wasn’t during the first read), I can begin to tear down other areas, like withdraw, which I had no idea I did (but I do)! Now that I recognize it, I’m able to deal with it. This book does not disappoint if you truly desire to heal those hurt areas!
