Book Five in the Magnificent Dune Chronicles—the Bestselling Science Fiction Adventure of All Time
Leto Atreides, the God Emperor of Dune, is dead. In the fifteen hundred years since his passing, the Empire has fallen into ruin. The great Scattering saw millions abandon the crumbling civilization and spread out beyond the reaches of known space. The planet Arrakis—now called Rakis—has reverted to its desert climate, and its great sandworms are dying.
Now the Lost Ones are returning home in pursuit of power. And as these factions vie for control over the remnants of the Empire, a girl named Sheeana rises to prominence in the wastelands of Rakis, sending religious fervor throughout the galaxy. For she possesses the abilities of the Fremen sandriders—fulfilling a prophecy foretold by the late God Emperor....
Customer Reviews
See AllA worthy sequel
This was a good book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. At first I was worried I wouldn’t be able to connect to any of the new characters since this takes places thousands of years after the original book, yet Frank Herbert pulls it off. While I’ll always have a soft spot for the original characters (the ones that were in movies, miniseries, remakes, and even video games) I grew to care for the new setting & characters as well. It can be a dense read sometimes, but if you get through that, you will enjoy this sequel.
Missing?
I love this book, but the iBook is missing all it's content. Problem?
Long, tedious book with no point
Filled with details that wind up not mattering at all and flat, uninteresting characters that repeat themselves over and over and over again, this book is a waste of time. After 600 pages of teasing “the great mystery of the Honored Matre’s diabolical plot” and the “secret modifications of Duncan Idaho, the ghola,”the big reveal becomes one of the biggest womp, womp moments in fiction. Save yourself. I read it, so you don’t have to.
