A strong, steady opening for the original trilogy. To say it's a Tolkien rip off is unfair. It is a bit slow and plodding at times, and the main character is unlikeable at first, but you must forgive him and his situation. This a very human book and not for the timid. Donaldson is Fantasy's version of John Steinbeck.

One of the Greatest stories ever .... So good to finally see in this format! Outshines even Tolkien.
I Forgot
Saw the title and remembered I had read it a long time ago. So long ago in fact, that I forgot the book began with a brutal rape perpetrated by the main character. Sorry, I can go no further.
