By the beloved and bestselling grandmaster of fantasy, Sir Terry Pratchett, this is the first in a series of Discworld novels starring the young witch Tiffany Aching.

A nightmarish danger threatens from the other side of reality. . . .

Armed with only a frying pan and her common sense, young witch-to-be Tiffany Aching must defend her home against the monsters of Fairyland. Luckily she has some very unusual help: the local Nac Mac Feegle—aka the Wee Free Men—a clan of fierce, sheep-stealing, sword-wielding, six-inch-high blue men.

Together they must face headless horsemen, ferocious grimhounds, terrifying dreams come true, and ultimately the sinister Queen of the Elves herself. . . .

The five funny and fabulous Tiffany Aching adventures are:

Another Great Story from Pratchett

I adore Tiffany. She’s just the sort of precocious child I was. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Pratchett gives a wonderful commentary on adulthood through the eyes of Tiffany. This was an absolute joy to read.

Are we still on Discworld?

I think we must be , mistresses Weatherwax and Ogg are here and they are from Lancre, so it seems like good old Discworld.

Sir Terry has done yet another masterful job of creating characters, ones I would like to sit in a pub with, around a fire with, or out with ship on the meadows with. They are very different from Capt. Carrot or Sam Vimes or Nobby Nobbs, but no less fascinating.

I am reading these books before sending them to my 10 year old twin granddaughters, I trust and hope they can find that there ideas about witches might need some serious rethinking. Well, both may yet qualify for a bit of witchcraft.

Great books are characterized by the feeling of regret I feel when coming to the end of them.I certainly regret finishing these books.

Wonderful reads.
