Publisher Description

In the final novel in the Broken Empire Trilogy, the boy who would rule all may have finally met his match...

King Jorg Ancrath is twenty now—and king of seven nations. His goal—revenge against his father—has not yet been realized, and the demons that haunt him have only grown stronger. Yet no matter how tortured his path, he intends to take the next step in his upward climb.

Jorg would be emperor. It is a position not to be gained by the sword but rather by vote. And never in living memory has anyone secured a majority of the vote, leaving the Broken Empire long without a leader. Jorg plans to change that. He’s uncovered the lost technology of the land, and he won’t hesitate to use it.

But he soon finds an adversary standing in his way, a necromancer unlike any he has ever faced—a figure hated and feared even more than himself: the Dead King.

Dark Yet Illuminating

I think it would be hard to overly praise this book and series. Mark has a style of writing that is simply phenomenal. It gets to the heart of difficult topics through well written, gritty fantasy that is always tying back to itself and pulling the story together. This book is full of prickly one liners and profound stand alone thoughts, but above all is a vehement story of thorns that hooks you in its grasp.

Read me if looking for great trilogy

If you’re like me you’ve probably searched a million different things along the lines of “best fantasy series” or “high rated fantasy”. It can be hard trying to find something that you think you’ll like and easy to nitpick between book reviews. All I gotta say is is to just start this series. Usually sequels never live up to the original whether it be a book or a movie, however Mark Lawrence really seemed to get more comfortable expressing is inner (possibly even dark) thoughts as the books progressed. Above all, I truly enjoyed the ending and didn’t feel as though I had just wasted months of my life as some Game of Thrones watchers may feel. As my first trilogy back after hating to read in high school, I’m glad I made it through this one.

Felt like there should have been more

The ending felt rushed. I enjoyed the trilogy for what it was but I felt like the book was grasping for straws to make a triumphant conclusion. That said great character development.
