Civil War Experiences
Publisher Description
With the coming of the Civil War, and the staggering casualties it ushered in, death entered the experience of the American people as it never had before -- permanently altering the character of the republic and the psyche of the American people. Contending with death on an unprecedented scale posed challenges for which there were no ready answers when the war began. Americans worked to improvise new solutions, new institutions, and new ways of coping with death on an unimaginable scale.
Customer Reviews
Worth the read.
Especially for young people of today. It shows respect, education, and high morals combined with a good reputation go a long way. I personally aspire to be known in such a way as this man was. The letters and documents at the end of this book give a testimony of high regard for this man by his superiors. The history in itself makes a good read, but I think the main story of this book lies between the lines, and is a story of moral patriotism and the call of duty. I hope that you, the next possible reader, get as much from this book as I.
