Great Short Story
A Part of the Pattern: A Jeff Resnick Mysteries Companion Story (Jeff Resnick's Personal Files Book 7) by L.L. Bartlett
Ex-insurance investigator Jeff Resnick and his brother are starting a new consulting business helping solve cold cases. Their first case happened over two decades when a five year old little girl went missing from her front yard. Is the the little girl alive or dead? Can Jeff find out what happened to the little girl? Is Jeff’s hunch that the little girl is still alive and all grown up true?
This was my first book in this series. I was really entertained by the story and was surprised at the ending. I loved how Jeff trusted his feelings when everyone else was hesitant to believe the little girl was still alive. This was a very quick read but I really enjoyed the characters and and the mystery was intriguing and held my attention until the end.
I will definitely read more books in the series and would recommend this book to all mystery lovers. This book contains no graphic sex, language or violence.
A Part of the Pattern
Richard has convinced Jeff to put their skills to good use by opening up their own investigation business, with cold cases their specialty. Jeff is not really convinced, especially since his psychic mentor, Sophia, is angry with him for charging fees to use his ability. He agrees to give it a go, but first wants to clean up a cold case that has been sitting on the back burner for a while...that of a five-year old child gone missing for twenty years. This story helps further the main characters' development, as well as bringing some enhancement to Jeff's psychic abilities. I enjoy the relationship Jeff has with his mentor, as well as with Richard and Brenda. I loved his sympathy with the plight of the dog, Holly. The twist at the end was interesting and I look forward to see how things play out in future stories. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing this advance reading copy.
