One woman’s quest for chili perfection
Carlene Lovell is going to hit her no-good, deadbeat, cheatin’ ass, soon-to-be ex-husband where it hurts: at the annual chili cook-off, which he’s won for 10 years in a row. To win, though, she’ll need more than a little help...
Is another man’s second chance at love
Police Chief Jack Landry has been smitten with Carlene forever. Now that she needs some help keeping the peace (and getting revenge), it’s his chance to prove that not all men are dogs….

A hilarious laugh out loud rom com
A hilarious laugh out loud rom com. Just what the doctor ordered after a crazy fall and thanksgiving week.
If you live or grew up in Texas, especially East Texas like u did, you'll love this Heap of Texas Trouble. From the start, when Carlene (would be Charline or Carly where i lived) find those red underwear she made and sold at Bless My Bloomers in husband Lenny's brief case, you're taken in by this group.
The three cousins who own Bless My Bloomers are as different as their moms (sisters Sugar, Tansy and Gigi). But family is family, from the ever prayin If somewhat misguided Alma Grace who is wrapped up in the Easter committee and choir, to the brash, cussing Patrice who could care less what others thunk if her actions.
Then there's the older church going women who are split in there clique loyalties, fly off the handle at the drop of a hat and aren't afraid to tussle or out their money where their mouth is. Steel Magnolias has nothing on this group. Love the nod to it in the book, however.
We've all got relatives or know someone like nearly everyone in the book, but won't name them out if self defense to keep the fist and easter eggs from flying in our direction. Granted some things, Especially their Southern shenanigans, are a bit over the top, but why not. Everything us bigger and better/badder in Texas (intentionally badder instead if worse.... it's a texas thang!)
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Carolyn Brown's rerelease , A Heap of Texas Trouble, originally released in 2014 as The Red-Hot Chili Cook-off. If you need a good laugh, feel good female family bonding, dose of woman power served with a side of romance and a dish of just desserts Brown's latest offering, A Heap Of Trouble is the perfect meal.... Texas sized of course.
