PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Enoch's heady third No Ordinary Hero historical romance (after My One True Highlander) is a scalding tale of pent-up desires finally unleashed. In 1806, roistering Highland laddie Callum MacCreath stormed out of his Inverness home because his boyhood buddy Rebecca Sanderson had decided to marry his stodgy but titled older brother, Ian. Callum decides to build a new life and a successful distillery in wild Kentucky. He's drawn back to Scotland in 1816 by the news of Ian's death, which makes him the new Lord Geiry. Callum suspects Ian was killed in a plot that might have involved Becca, who's now the wealthiest widow in Scotland. He launches a vendetta against Ian's shipping business partners, the dastardly Duke of Dunncraigh and his conniving son, Donnach. When Becca first sees Callum, she faints. Callum nearly swoons himself, undone by six-year-old Lady Margaret, his niece and legal ward. As he comes to trust Becca and the two of them learn how to share in Margaret's upbringing, they commit to bringing Ian's killers to justice and mesmerize each other into passion. Enoch weaves together sly humor, a convincing supporting cast, and explosive erotic encounters between a hero who feels being civilized is a nuisance and a heroine who both matches his ardor and outplots his plans for vengeance. The combination is sure to keep romance fans enthralled.

Engaging!
Callum was heartbroken; his childhood friend, Rebecca, the one, he assumed would always be his, was marrying Ian, his responsible brother. It was true that Callum had spent most of his time, inebriated, and flirting with loose women, but when his friend accepted his brother’s marriage proposal, Callum realized the depth of his feelings for Rebecca. Callum’s reaction, he admits was extreme, and what he did, very wrong. But did his brother have to ban him from the family? The truth of it was; apparently, he did, because that was what it took, for Callum to turn his life around.
After spending ten years in America, Callum was a changed man. Although he never forgot Rebecca, he wanted to. He tried to hate her, but couldn’t. However, if Callum discovered that Rebecca had anything to do with his brother’s death, hating her would be easy. She would pay, just like anyone who had a hand in his brother’s murder. And murder is what it was. Callum was sure of it. When Callum returned to Scotland, to avenge his brother’s death, his stone heart began to soften. Margaret, the niece he had never met, won his heart over the moment she spoke with him. She was beautiful and innocent and his brother’s daughter. Rebecca, however, was another story. He didn’t care where she went or whom she married; just as long as she was aware that she wouldn’t be taking her daughter with her. No, Margaret was staying with him. He was her guardian now.
As Callum dug for information about his brother’s death, his enemies became nervous. Rebecca was torn; should she side with Callum who had Margaret under his roof, or with the people she had trusted for years, but whom Callum felt murdered her late husband?
A Devil in Scotland is the third book in the intriguing Suzanne Enoch’s No Ordinary Hero’s series. I found the book engaging, the storyline captivating, and the dialogue realistic. A Devil in Scotland is an enjoyable read.
Thank you, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.
Charming characters (esp. Maggie)
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I LOVED it. Callum and Rebecca were charming and grew into wonderful characters that got a second chance at love. The most wonderful character though was Rebecca's daughter, Maggie. Not only did this 6 year old charm Callum and his wolf Waya, but myself as well. She reminded me of my nieces.
I adore Ms. Enoch's writing. She has a fantastic flair for writing. You just get lost in the story. I couldn't put this down as I was so intrigued by the plot. This is a book that will go on the "to read again" shelf.
Extraordinary!
Extraordinary! Suzanne Enoch’s detailed descriptive narrative places the reader firmly in 1800’s Scotland. I felt as if I was surrounded by the sights, sounds and character of Inverness. I struggled to put it down because I just couldn’t wait to see what happened next.
Rebecca Sanderson and Callum had been friends for ten years when his older brother, Ian Lord Geiry became engaged to Rebecca to forge a deal in the shipping business with her father, leasing the docks from Dunncraigh, the head of Clan Maxwell. Drunk and upset about this turn of events Callum quickly crosses a line and is banished from the Geiry house forever.
Ten years later when Callum hears of the death of his brother, he returns to the Geiry estate as the Lord, and as quite a different person altogether. Rich and powerful with a Wolf by his side he is ready to prove that his brother’s death was not an accident. Becca is outraged when Callum threatens to take her daughter away from her as well as not allowing her suitor the Dunncraig’s son and heir, in the House. Loved the interaction between Callum his niece Maggie as well as Waya the wolf. But as Becca and Callum tangle with each other, intense feelings of attraction are hard to resist. But as danger rears it’s ugly head, is anyone safe? How does it all end? You will need to read to find out.
This second chance historical romance was intense, filled with angst, intrigue, suspense, betrayal and Love. Excellent characters. Everything is just so well thought out and detailed. I loved the build and pace. It was just so exciting as well as heartwarmingly romantic with the perfect amount of heat. I Loved Rebecca and Callum’s story. And so will you!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
