Publisher Description

Sun Tzu's The Art of War is a landmark achievement in the evolution of strategic thought. So universal and timeless are its tactics for pursuing a competitive advantage that some of the most notable people in government, sports, and the entertainment world have all quoted from its nearly 2500-year-old pages. These six expertly crafted lectures explore this classic's wisdom for staying nimble in an ever-changing environment and for maximizing reward while minimizing risk remains eternally fresh. As war and business become more mental and less physical, human intellect plays an ever greater role in competition-making Sun Tzu's strategies highly relevant to the information age.

Through a precise explanation of the original text and case studies, Professor Wilson examines how the seminal work's model of leadership has been applied-and misapplied-throughout the realms of war, politics, business, and beyond. You'll study the text's historical framework and then delve into the critical calculations that must be made prior to war-what Sun Tzu refers to as knowing the enemy, knowing ourselves.

By studying real-world examples, you'll come away understanding the qualities effective commanders must possess and the work's practical implications for outmaneuvering competitors in daily life. By taking this course, you will appreciate Sun Tzu's content on a far deeper level.

Much easier to understand than I expected

I have read The Art of War but, I still didn't understand it. After listening to this audiobook, I am rereading The Art of War with a totally different perspective.

Superb

Listened to it all in one sitting, couldn’t put it down. So well put together and insightful that I will return to it periodically and listen to each lecture one by one.

The Art of War

The Instructor knows ‘of’ this material, but often spends the most time convincing listeners of far reaching tangents, then realizes how much time he’s spent departing from discussions about the actual Book and Lessons - at which point , he then Exalts the Idea of the Book, rather than sharing applicable understanding of the ideas within the text . This could have been a presentation with an appropriate level of understanding and practical knowledge. But it was departing from what it could have been too often.
This Instructor, obviously has no Military experience, although he clearly admires those who do. Without this qualifier, teaching this subject can represent something like Astronomy, in that the teacher is describing information that they see as distant and ethereal, rather than practical even simple. Military knowledge is rich within this ancient text, but a discovery of context and parallel application from this Instructor is an merely an Exciting Idea, rather than something he can or should be willing to communicate devoid of ego and posturing. Military Professionals are often educating other soldiers with the potential of facing clear and shared risks for failure. They are instinctively personally invested.
With all due respect, to this Academic, he shares his character flaws and egotism, much more than he Informs Practical Application & Lessons in Military Education,Experience and Expertise. Although he doesn’t restrain himself from sounding as though he might . This ultimately is dishonest and for me personally disappointing.
It could have been more. I would have gleaned more from a conversation focused on the 1. topics the writers are intending to communicate 2. Historical context information directly relevant to the specific topic. 3. The lack of modern character flaws expressed through Posturing and not respecting the listeners time.
Respectfully time not well spent
