Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing. Fewer and fewer couples are getting married, and divorce rates keep climbing as adultery and flagging libido drag down even seemingly solid marriages.

How can reality be reconciled with the accepted narrative? It can't be, according to renegade thinkers Christopher Ryan and Cacilda Jetha. While debunking almost everything we "know" about sex, they offer a bold alternative explanation in this provocative and brilliant book.

Ryan and Jetha's central contention is that human beings evolved in egalitarian groups that shared food, child care, and, often, sexual partners. Weaving together convergent, frequently overlooked evidence from anthropology, archaeology, primatology, anatomy, and psychosexuality, the authors show how far from human nature monogamy really is. Human beings everywhere and in every era have confronted the same familiar, intimate situations in surprisingly different ways. The authors expose the ancient roots of human sexuality while pointing toward a more optimistic future illuminated by our innate capacities for love, cooperation, and generosity.

Sex At Dawn

Outstanding research and thought provoking analysis of human sexuality. This book also brings light to the questions of violence in the nature of human beings and their closest primate relatives. In the end, I am convinced of the view of humans as good and cooperative, albeit living in a system that thwarts our very natures and gives rise to the violence and frustration that we see in the world today.

This book has make me grow

This is the best book i have ever read and heard, it has open mi mind to new ideas, and possibilities.. At first i that it was just a list of facts and cultural comparisons, but as i was moving true the chapters i realize many of this "new" theories presented on this book where ideas that i had try to consider but i did not had enough data to confirm. But the hard and best part was at the end, it open an old scar on the constant dilemma of the way men sees love and sex, thats right! Not the same thing.. This hit me on a really personal level.. I have always try to express how i feel about this part of human nature and the way it has affect me,. I was never successful at it. I just cud not find the right words to do it, not to my self or others.. This book just puts every word on place for mi..
