Publisher Description

Now a major motion picture! Stephen King’s #1 New York Times bestseller is a “wild, powerful, disturbing” (The Washington Post Book World) classic about evil that exists far beyond the grave—among King’s most iconic and frightening novels.

When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Despite Ludlow’s tranquility, an undercurrent of danger exists here. Those trucks on the road outside the Creed’s beautiful old home travel by just a little too quickly, for one thing…as is evidenced by the makeshift graveyard in the nearby woods where generations of children have buried their beloved pets. Then there are the warnings to Louis both real and from the depths of his nightmares that he should not venture beyond the borders of this little graveyard where another burial ground lures with seductive promises and ungodly temptations. A blood-chilling truth is hidden there—one more terrifying than death itself, and hideously more powerful. As Louis is about to discover for himself sometimes, dead is better

At last the uncut version

For a long time I was only able to listen to BBC Radio’s abridged version on CD. That version was the stuff of nightmares for me, but how I longed for the full version of the most terrifying King novel. The wish was granted last year with Michael C. Hall’s reading which was pitch perfect especially as he channeled the iconic Maine accent made famous by Fred Gwynne’s portrayal in the 1989 film.

The Best of the Genre and The Best Reading

Stephen King is simply a great writer and an undisputed master of the genre. He says, in the foreword, that Pet Sematary is his most frightening book, and one that he himself questioned publishing. We can be glad he did. What masterful storytelling and suspense! And the reading by Hall is pitch perfect -- not so showy as to distract but with enough expression to add to the telling. This is a great audiobook.

Michael C Hall knocks it out of the park

This isn’t my first read of this story (which is one of my all time SK favorites) MCHs performance is perfect. His character voices (especially of that of Ellie and Rachael that are feminine but not overdone) and Judd really make the story come to life. I will listen to all 15 hours of this again happily. My new favorite audiobook
