Publisher Description

Emma, a comic novel by Jane Austen, was published in December 1815.

The main character, Emma Woodhouse, is described in the opening paragraph as "handsome, clever, and rich" but is also rather spoiled. Emma schemes to find a suitable husband for her pliant friend Harriet, only to discover that she understands the feelings of others as little as she does her own heart.

good...

This book by Jane Austen is in her style and very discriptive. sometimes sentences seem to sssttttrrreetttcchhh out
and you forget the origianal meaning of the scentence. overall its a very good romance book.

Great book, good reader

Of course the book itself is great. It is one of my favorites by Austen, and I've read it many many times. This reader is pretty good. I find her voice a little annoying, mostly when she reads for Emma and sounds manly. She tends to give Emma a feminine sounding voice when Emma talks with a man, like Mr Knightley, and a more masculine voice when she talks with a woman, especially Harriet. I guess she is trying to contrast giggly, flighty Harriet with "wise" Emma, but when you've just listened to the reader read a scene with Emma and Mr Knightley, and now Emma sounds like Mr Knightley, it's a little annoying. Also there is one part where the reader didn't understand who was talking. She reads another character's words in Harriet's voice, obviously thinking that Harriet is speaking, and it is NOT the case. It's a part where it should be obvious who is speaking, so it bothers me a little every time I come to that part. Still, these are minor issues, and I do recommend this version for the fairly low price you can get it for.

Great reader, boring book

This reading is perfect. The reader characterizes the voices in a charming way that’s easy to listen to. However, Emma disappointed me as a novel. The length doesn’t justify the plot and Emma is just too unlikable as a protagonist!
