Publisher Description
Steve Johnson is living his life's passion watching over the Colorado Mountains as a ranger and wildlife consultant. But his peaceful life is upended when overzealous and insanely beautiful Shannon Braden flits back into his life after returning from a brief trip home to Maryland. He thought his attraction to her was under control - after all, she's only in Colorado temporarily, and he doesn't do casual affairs.
Shannon's return to Colorado has as much to do with the game of cat and mouse she and Steve have been playing as it does the data she's been hired to collect. But despite her efforts to explore the undeniable heat simmering between them, Steve's intent on keeping his distance.
When a ranch abutting the national park goes up for sale, Steve will do whatever it takes to keep it from falling into the wrong hands. And when all his attempts fail, he's left with no alternative but to follow Shannon's guidance into the online world he abhors in order to raise the funds. The more time they spend together, the deeper their attraction becomes, and a game of cat and mouse turns into an unstoppable connection. But when Shannon's assignment comes to an end, will it mean an end to them, too?
Customer Reviews
Grizz's Butterfly
I received an audio ARC of Crushing on Love: Shannon Braden (Love in Bloom: The Bradens of Peaceful Harbor, Book 4) by Melissa Foster in exchange for an honest review.
I love audio books and B.J. Harrison has become one of my favorite narrators because he does an exceptional job. His ability to make you believe you're listening to the characters along with his tone and inflection puts you in the middle of the story!
Can city girl Shannon "Butterfly" Braden from Peaceful Harbor, MD find love with Steve "Grizz" Johnson in the Colorado Mountains?
Wildlife Consultant Steve Johnson is happy in his peaceful life, without technology, without a lot of conveniences, living the life he's passionate about. Although somewhat isolated he doesn't crave constant chatter or company. Enter feisty Shannon Braden.
Sassy Shannon returns to Colorado continuing her research on foxes and becomes Steve's neighbor on the mountain. They had a brief flirtation at his sister's wedding and Steve thought that's all it was, however, he finds Shannon's appeal to be more than he bargained for and he knows she's headed back home when her research is finished and he doesn't do casual affairs.
Despite his good intentions not to get close to Shannon, Steve cannot but help himself from being drawn into her orbit. Shannon for her part wants to explore what might be and is frustrated as Steve runs hot and cold.
Technology challenged Steve ends up needing Shannon's help to prevent a ranch that's for sale from falling into the wrong hands and destroying the natural beauty that means so much to him. As they work together they are drawn even closer until the sheer force of their attraction won't be denied.
There are so many tender, sweet moments: pink shoelaces, yellow hoodie, Pop-Tarts, cupcakes with pink frosting, schmores and of course Happy Packs! Learning to dance in secret and risking humiliation! But the passion was sinfully perfect!
When Shannon's time is up with they part ways? Have a long distance relationship or end things on the mountain?
I listened to the audio twice because it was that good. Melissa Foster know how to bring people together and weave a magically story with angst, heartache, passion and love. Five Stars!
Shannon and Steve's HEA
Shannon Braden is working in the mountains of Colorado doing research for the company she works for. During her time there, she forms a connection with Steve Johnson. Once home for her brother’s wedding, her sister convinces her to go back to Colorado to see if anything will happen between her and Steve. Instead of staying with one of her relatives, her company rents her a cabin in the mountains close to Steve’s home.
Steve Johnson not only loves his cabin and job, he also loves the solitude the mountain provides; that is until Shannon shows back up on his mountain. The attraction is mutual, but he knows she is only there for a short time. He tries to fight his attraction to her but their chemistry is just too much. As their relationship builds, will she be able to leave him at the end of her assignment and will he let her go.
There’s no life trauma, just two friends wanting more
This book was about a Braden and Johnson and the old feud from years ago. Even though Shannon is not one of Hal's kids and directly impacted by the old feud, she's still a Braden so Steve is cautious around her. Even though the feud was "resolved" there still remains doubt about how the families will react. In addition, Shannon doesn't know what she wants to do with her life and she is only in Colorado for a short time to do a study. This causes Steve to hesitate in his desire for her. But lust and love win out and they end up together.
I love how all of the Bradens step in to help raise the money to buy the land via conservation rally. It was a new theme for a book and I enjoyed hearing different ways to raise the money. All of the girls got so excited to plan the rally. Shannon was in her element planning this. She finally found what she was good at and wanted to do.
There's no life trauma, just two friends who want more in life.
BJ Harrison always delivers a great narration of Ms Foster's books. It's a joy to listen to him
