Publisher Description

The study of sexual physiology - what happens, and why, and how to make it happen better - has been a paying career or a diverting sideline for scientists as far-ranging as Leonardo da Vinci and James Watson. The research has taken place behind the closed doors of laboratories, brothels, MRI centers, pig farms, sex-toy R&D labs, and Alfred Kinsey's attic.

Mary Roach, "The funniest science writer in the country" (Burkhard Bilger of The New Yorker), devoted the past two years to stepping behind those doors. Can a person think herself to orgasm? Can a dead man get an erection? Is vaginal orgasm a myth? Why doesn't Viagra help women - or, for that matter, pandas? In Bonk, Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm - two of the most complex, delightful, and amazing scientific phenomena on earth - can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to slowly make the bedroom a more satisfying place.

This book is great!

What a refreshing and humorous look at science and sex. Although the book is written scholarly, it is by no means boring. And I think the naration is fanstastic as well. Highly recommended!

The book is good - the audiobook is no

This book is very interesting. From the author of Stiff. But the audiobook falls flat. The narration is boring and very mono-tone -- aka sleep-inducing. And if you get it on CD, each disk is broken up into 99 tracks of anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute which makes it extremely annoying to import into iTunes. Just get the book and forget the audiobook. And pick up a copy of Stiff while you're at it.

Very entertaining combination of science and humor

I loved this book. It answered many questions I had about where our research comes from regarding sex and how it is achieved. It also goes in to,.sometimes gruesome, detail about the history of science and sex. All done with humor and a layman's insight. Well worth the price.
